BELCOURT, ND–JUNE 21, 2025–In a competitive dash against the clock and the crosswind, Korona On The Side edged out rivals to capture the $8,900 Chippewa Downs Open Quarter Horse Futurity (not black type) on Saturday.
The 2-year-old sorrel gelding surged ahead in the 300-yard dash, stopping the timer at 16.140 seconds, earning a Speed Index of 80, and clinching victory by a neck margin over his closest competitor.
A steady crosswind of 16 mph blew across the track under cloudy skies and a fast racing surface.
Bred in North Dakota by Steve Leonard, Korona On The Side is sired by Koronaville and out of Tricks On the Side, a daughter of Favorite Trick (TB).
Owned by Mark Allery and John Bercier, the gelding is trained by Allery and was ridden to victory by Larren Delorme. The win netted the connections a first-place prize of $4,717.
