GILLETTE, WY—JUNE 21, 2025—R Dash Of Fire at odds of 23-1 surged to a head victory in the $226,000 Wyoming Bred Quarter Horse Futurity at Energy Downs 307 Racing on Saturday afternoon, securing the richest race in the state’s history and stopping the clock in 15.432 seconds over a fast 300-yard course.
The 2-year-old gelding earned a 97 speed index in the win, which came with a tailwind of 8 mph on a clear 72-degree day.
Bred in Wyoming by Ron and Laurie Moosman, the sorrel son of multiple stakes sire Conn Creek, out of the FDD Dynasty mare Tribal Fire, is owned by Wagonhammer Cattle LLC and trained by Jorge Garfias.
Under jockey Valente Vorrath, R Dash Of Fire broke sharply from post 2 and held strong despite drifting out late to prevail by a head over the fast-closing Flying Rocco. The win netted his connections $113,000 from the purse.

Flying Rocco, the 2-1 favorite, ran valiantly in defeat for breeder-owner J.P. Sample and trainer Kylie Valenzuela. The gelding by leading Flying Cowboy 123 out of This Chicks A Queen by Looking for Chicks finished in 15.445 seconds, also earning a 97 speed index.
Jockey David Alvarez, Jr. guided the sorrel runner to a runner-up share of $33,900 after a late rally from post 6, drifting in slightly in the closing yards.
Third-place finisher In The Vee, a homebred for Wyoming-based Eddie Jensen, held gamely along the rail under jockey Jacob Cardenas. The Junior June Bug gelding, out of Brindis Secret by Brindis Por Cayenne, is trained by Jess Matt earned $19,210 for his connections.
The top three finishers were separated by mere necks in a thrilling renewal of the historic futurity.
Pari-mutuel payoffs reflected the upset victory: R Dash Of Fire paid $48.00 to win, $18.60 to place, and $3.80 to show. Flying Rocco returned $9.00 to place and $3.60 to show, while In The Vee paid $3.00 to show. The $2 exacta (2-6) paid $51.20, and the $1 trifecta (2-6-1) returned $149.80.
Finishing behind the top trio were Cgr Crooked Cowboy (4th), Cyber Cartel (5th), Paint Me Ivory (6th), My Dynasty (7th), Fly the Flag (8th), Ud Baby (9th), and Sixs Cb Blakely (10th).
