Gigis Gucci Glasses Edges Out Photo Finish Victory in Tulsa State Fair Stakes

TULSA, OK–JUNE 21, 2025–In a nail-biting finish at Fair Meadows in Tulsa, Gigis Gucci Glasses held off a hard-charging Marvelous Marv on Saturday afternoon to win the $13,265 Tulsa State Fair Stakes (not black type) by a nose.

Breaking alertly under jockey Erik Esqueda, Gigis Gucci Glasses took immediate command from the outside post and dug in gamely through the stretch. The daughter of Painted Turnpike stopped the clock at 18.080 seconds, earning an 84 speed index and delivering a notable upset at 7-2, returning $17.20 to win.

The win, her second from six starts, added $8,346 to her record, increasing her career earnings to $24,413. Gigis Gucci Glasses previously broke her maiden at Remington Park and was a finalist in the PSBA American Paint & Appaloosa Classic Futurity.

Trained by Matt Whitekiller for owner-breeders Kyle and Kellie Taylor, the Oklahoma-bred filly is out of Sparketta, by CRM Livewire.

Runner-up Marvelous Marv, ridden by Mario Delgado, was in the thick of it from the break. Despite breaking inward and bumping early, the colt surged between rivals in the final yards and missed by the slimmest of margins in 18.084 seconds, also earning an 84 speed index.

The CRM Livewire colt is trained by Dee Keener for 918 Bloodstock and was bred in Oklahoma by Marvin and Pam Wilcox. He is out of RF Livies Special, by Desirio. With one win from four starts, his earnings now total $14,034.

Turnpike Bandit, a son of Painted Turnpike, turned in a sharp effort to complete the trifecta under Roman Cruz. The sorrel gelding vied throughout the race and was just a head behind the top two at the wire, finishing in 18.094 seconds for an 84 speed index.

Trained by Stacey Capps for owner-breeders Mark and Lori Dolan, he is out of Shakeemwhileyoucan, by Red Oak Special. With one win and two third-place finishes from four starts, he has now earned $12,916.

Royal Chil, Perkin Tothe Limit, and Flight Risk completed the order of finish in the 350-yard event contested over a fast track with a 22-mph headwind.
