PRINEVILLE, OR–JULY 12, 2025–Alabama Hills surged to victory in the Crooked River Hook – Mixed Breed Stakes (not black type), a $7,800 feature held Saturday at Crooked River Roundup, shattering the previous track record at 610 yards.

The 9-year-old gelding stopped the clock in 31.867 seconds, eclipsing the longstanding record of 31.878 set by Cm Once Ina Bluemoon in 2019. Racing over a fast track, Alabama Hills earned a speed index of 102 and collected $3,900 for the win.

The son of Brookstone Bay broke alertly from the rail and never looked back under Alex Anaya. Trained by Benito Curiel, Alabama Hills held off a determined bid from Romanian to win by a half-length.

With the victory, Alabama Hills improved his record to 10 wins and 7 seconds from 35 starts, and pushed his lifetime earnings to $57,087. Bred and owned by Malon L. Cowgill of Washington, he is out of Tombstone Tina by Jess Louisiana Blue.

Runner-up Romanian, a 7-year-old gelding by Fly Chisholm Fly, out of Watch My Six-TB by Demons Begone-TB, chased the leader throughout but lacked the needed late push. Bred, owned, and trained by Gilberto Madrigal of Oregon, Romanian was ridden by Jose Guerrero. He picked up $1,950 for the effort and has now earned $39,265 over 37 starts.

Finishing third was Mr Ease Z Money, a 6-year-old gelding by Mr Ease Cartel, out of Miss Money Hawk by Hawkinson. Bred in Idaho by Dan Moon, he races for owner-trainer Maribel Rodriguez and was guided by Erick De Luna. He launched a four-wide bid early before flattening out late, finishing six lengths behind Romanian. The multiple winner has career earnings nearing $20,000.

The rest of the field finished in the following order: One Jess Gamer, Harlie Mo, and Corona Boss. There were no scratches in the race.
