Jess A Dash Of Class Flies Late to Capture KC Carden Wyoming Bred Derby

EVANSTON, WY—JULY 19, 2025—Jess A Dash Of Class surged late to win the $91,000 KC Carden Wyoming Bred Derby on Saturday afternoon at Wyoming Downs, stopping the clock in 17.764 seconds for 350 yards while earning a speed index of 89.

The 3-year-old sorrel multiple stakes-winning filly powered home under jockey Jesus Valenzuela to edge out a competitive field of accredited Wyoming-bred sophomores in a dramatic finish.

Trained by Kylie Valenzuela for owner Eddie Jensen, Jess A Dash Of Class was bred in Wyoming by Ron and Laurie Moosman. The daughter of Jess Paint Me, out of Steffiesclassic Dash by Winners Version, displayed a strong closing kick to take command in the final strides and secure the $41,860 winner’s share of the purse.

Winner of the Wyoming Bred Derby at Energy Downs in June has won seven of 11 career starts and banked $198,760.

Runner-up Papas Tribe broke sharply from the rail under jockey Jacob Cardenas and held the lead deep into the stretch before yielding late to the winner. The sorrel gelding, also bred by Ron and Laurie Moosman and owned by Eddie Jensen, is trained by Jess Matt.

By multiple stakes sire Pappasito, out of Tribal Fire by FDD Dynasty, Papas Tribe collected $18,200 for his runner-up finish, boosting his lifetime bankroll to $29,643.

Multiple stakes-placed Kcross Comin In Hot rallied for third after stumbling at the start under Victor Dominguez. The sorrel gelding, a homebred for Wagonhammer Ranch and racing for BDS Performance Horses, is trained by Skyler Greene. He boosted his lifetime mark to $43,276 after addding $9,100 today. Kcross Comin In Hot is by RGR Jungle Jock, out of Caseys Six Pick by My Special Bear.

Jess A Dash Of Class returned $5.00 to win, $3.40 to place, and $2.60 to show. Papas Tribe paid $9.20 to place and $5.40 to show, while Kcross Comin in Hot returned $4.20 to show.

Also competing were Shiza a Turbo (4th), Y O At A Glance (5th), Mr Volaris (6th), Lanes Mountain (7th), Sixs Cb Sweet Haven (8th), Tmt Turbocharged (9th), and A Dash Of Steffie (10th).
