Cowboy Heartbreak Scores Narrow Win in G.C.F.A. Paint & Appaloosa Maturity

FREDERICKSBURG, TX—JULY 19, 2025—Cowboy Heartbreak surged late under jockey Nestor Duran to win the $25,000 G.C.F.A. Paint & Appaloosa Maturity at Gillespie County Fairground, narrowly defeating V Golden Game by a neck at the wire.

The 3-year-old sorrel gelding completed the 350-yard dash in 18.016 seconds into a 10 mph headwind on a fast track, earning a speed index of 84.

Trained and owned by Zackery N. Rios, Cowboy Heartbreak is a Texas-bred son of Boknaai out of the Awesome Chrome mare Camo Cowgirl.

Bred by Sandra Garnett, the gelding drove past the leader in the final strides to secure the top prize of $9,500 from the guaranteed purse. Cowboy Heartbreak is a five-time winner of more than $50,600.

V Golden Game, a 4-year-old gelding by CRM Livewire out of Game Hi by Game Patriot, was game in defeat after breaking sharply and leading much of the way before yielding late.

The Oklahoma-bred runner is owned by Oscar Rivera Cardona, trained by Raul Rodriguez, Jr., and was ridden by Victor Manuel Urieta, Jr. He picked up a runner-up share of $4,250. A stakes winner, V Golden Game has earned $75,235 in 21 starts.

Frenchy, a 4-year-old Texas-bred filly by CRM Livewire out of CRP Coco by This Now Is Royal, raced evenly to hold third.

Bred and owned by Scott or Lindsey Pruett, the filly is trained by Arnold Lewis and was ridden by Gaspar Garcia. Frenchy collected $2,750 for the show finish, boosting his earnings total to $65,006.

The remaining order of finish was Ldr Streakin in fourth, Crb Beauti fifth, Vp Gravel Pit Dancer sixth, Moonpike seventh, Gangster Grip eighth, Vp Wired to Win ninth, and Crb Love in tenth.

Pari-mutuel payoffs returned $6.60 to win, $2.80 to place, and $2.60 to show on Cowboy Heartbreak. V Golden Game paid $3.00 to place and $3.60 to show. Frenchy returned $3.60 to show.
