EVANSTON, WY—JULY 25, 2025—Billys Brandi posted the fastest time from ten trials held Friday at Wyoming Downs to determine the field for the $200,000-est. Wyoming Downs Futurity, a 350-yard stakes event for 2-year-old Quarter Horses, is set for August 10.
Owned and bred in Oklahoma by Bill Doenz, Billys Brandi flew from the gates in the first trial under jockey Luis A. Valenzuela and held off Eye B Popping by a neck to stop the timer in 17.511 seconds, a 96-speed index on a fast track.
The gelded son of first crop sire Cyber Monday, out of the Hes Relentless mare Ec Brandi, is trained by Josh Taylor. Billy's Brandi, who also finished fourth in the Remington Park Juvenile and last in the Energy Downs Futurity in his previous start, showed sharp improvement to earn the top qualifying spot. He has earned $28,716 from three wins in five starts.
The second-fastest qualifier, Eye B Popping, also came from the opening trial. The Brimmerton filly, out of Eye Popping by Mr Eye Opener, rallied late under Edwin G. Escobedo to finish in 17.554, a 95-speed index, for owners Heavy Hitters Racing Stables and trainer Joe M. Davis.
Bred in Texas by Bobby D. Cox, Eye B Popping showed late interest and appears poised for a strong showing in the final.
Dulce Kubata posted the third-fastest qualifying time in the ninth trial, edging out two rivals in a tight finish to clock 17.655 seconds. Bred in Wyoming by Dan and/or Patricia Baker and trained by owner Calli VanTassell Dominguez, the sorrel gelding is by leading first-crop sire Dulce Sin Tacha and out of Bf Memory Lane by Maknmoves.
Rider Gerardo Vera guided the locally bred colt to a gritty first career win by a nose.
Among leading sires represented in the top ten are Cyber Monday, who sired both Billys Brandi and fellow finalist You Got Litt Up; and Dulce Sin Tacha, who is the sire of both Dulce Kubata and fellow qualifier Deja Dulce.
The Wyoming Downs Futurity final will be run on Sunday, August 10. The ten fastest from Friday's trials return to compete for the estimated $200,000 purse. CLICK HERE for a finalists list that includes times, sires, dams, owners, breeders, trainers, and jockeys.
