SHELBYVILLE, IN–AUGUST 30, 2025–A Flare For Politics lit up the toteboard on Saturday with a shocking 45-1 upset in the $230,111 QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity-RG3 at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
A Flare For Politics, overlooked by nearly everyone, broke fifth from the gates under jockey Jorge Torres, who traveled from Prairie Meadows to ride. The son of Flare For Ivory surged late to capture his first career victory, stopping the clock in 17.926 seconds with an 88 speed index.
His unexpected victory rewarded backers with $93.60 to win and added $89,744 to his bankroll for owner Phillip Harrison which boosted his total earnings to $95,844. Bred in Indiana by Walter R. “Dick” Harrison, A Flare For Politics is out of Apollitical Deb, by Apollitical Jess, and was an $8,600 repurchase at the 2024 QHRAI Yearling Sale.

A Flare For Politics entered the final as the eighth fastest qualifier after finishing second in his trial heat, but put everything together when it counted most. “He’s just real immature, but as he keeps maturing he just keeps getting better,” trainer Tim Eggleston said.
Before legging up Torres, Eggleston told his rider, “Just ride him like he’s an old horse, not like he’s green and I think he will do well for you.”
For the Harrison family, the win carried special meaning. “He’s a very interesting horse. I wasn’t expecting this. I thought the other one (Victory Beach) would do a little better, but I am happy with the results,” Phillip Harrison said, noting that his other finalist, Victory Beach, finished sixth.
“My dad was doing this for 50 or 60 years. He enjoyed it and we are continuing to enjoy it,” said Phil, who took over operations of the family’s racing business from his father, Walter “Dick” Harrison, following his passing in early 2024.
Eggleston ended by thanking all of the connections, “Jorge did a great job, I appreciate him and all of my riders. I also I thank Phil for allowing me to train him.” A Flare For Politics is expected to return in the Miss Roxie Futurity trials on Champions Day.
Beach Burner, bred in Indiana by Kenneth Jay Feltis, rallied to finish second by a half-length in :18.014, posting an 85 speed index. The sorrel gelding by Escondido Beach is out of The Redheaded Diva, by Dominyun.
Racing for Campos Family Ventures LLC, he is trained by Claudio Barraza and was ridden by Edgar Diaz. From just two career starts, Beach Burner has one win and $51,422 in earnings.
Seven Beaches completed the trifecta under jockey Luz Martinez, finishing just a nose behind in :18.017 with an 85 speed index. The gray filly is by Escondido Beach and out of Eyem Sixes, by Sixes Liaison.
Bred in Indiana by Shelly A. Chavis, Seven Beaches races for Pamela Hann, and is trained by Anthony Cunningham. She now has two wins from four starts and earnings of $38,776.
The remaining order of finish was Sydney Jack, Delreys Rollin Bayou, Victory Beach, Heza Hawkeye, Sizzzling Heart, Cm Eagle Run (disqualified to ninth), and One Sweet Wagon.
