ALBUQUERQUE, NM—SEPTEMBER 1, 2025—In a commanding late effort, Karmalites surged past her rivals to win the $702,907 Grade 1 All American Quarter Horse Oaks on Sunday at The Downs at Albuquerque, completing the 440 yards in 21.091 seconds with a 99 speed index over a fast track into a 10-mph headwind.
The victory rewarded owner Fabian Muniz Porras with the winner’s purse of $295,221 and delivered trainer Jorge Sanchez Jr. and jockey Luis Martinez one of the biggest victories of their careers.
Breaking alertly from post nine, Karmalites, a 3-year-old sorrel filly by The Marfa Lights out of Cartel Karma, by Corona Cartel, vied for the early lead before inching away in the final yards to score by three-quarters of a length.
Bred in Oklahoma by Paris Wixon, Karmalites was a $12,000 purchase at the 2023 Heritage Place Yearling Sale and steadily climbed the stakes ladder this season.

Last season, she won the John Deere Ruidoso Downs Juvenile (G3) and Four Corners Futurity. This season was third in the West Texas Derby(G3) before her first Grade 1 victory this afternoon. The $295,221 winner's purse doubles her bankroll to $574,812. This is the family of world champion All American Futurity(G1) winner Merganser and Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity winner Tres Passes.
Apolitical Chilitas finished second after a strong effort from the inside under jockey Cruz Mendez. The 3-year-old sorrel filly by leading sire Apollitical Jess out of Mary Me Anna, by Game Patriot, battled head-to-head with the winner through much of the race before being outfinished late.
She earned $126,523 for owners Licon Farm and Ranch LLC. Trained by Luis Rojero and bred in Oklahoma by Omar Paredes, Apolitical Chilitas was purchased for $100,000 at the 2023 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale.
A sister to Dash For Cash Futurity(G2) winner and #3 leading second-crop sire Chilitos, Apolitical Chilitas improved her bankroll to $333,202.

Finishing third was fastest qualifier Razor Sharp, who overcame a crowded start to claim the show spot by a neck under jockey Sergio Becerra Jr. The 3-year-old sorrel filly by champion Tempting Dash out of Lady Bellaqua, by Mr Jess Perry, is owned by Ronald L. Sugamosto and trained by Eric Valenzuela.
Bred in Missouri by Nogal Orb LLC, Razor Sharp earned $70,291 for her effort to push her earnings mark to just under $200,00. She was a $67,000 purchase at the 2023 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.
Karmalites returned $20.20 to win, $13.40 to place, and $7.60 to show. Apolitical Chilitas paid $17.60 to place and $9.40 to show, while Razor Sharp returned $3.80.
Rainbow of Diamonds finished fourth, earning $56,233 for owner Valeriano Racing Stables LLC and trainer Victor Rodriguez-Flores. Karmas a Chick checked in fifth, collecting $42,174 for MJR Investments Ltd. and trainer Clinton Crawford. Sheza Fearless Eagle ran sixth for Jill Cook and trainer Fernando Manriquez, earning $35,145.
Ohana Spirit crossed the wire seventh for Gentry Farms and trainer John Stinebaugh, bringing in $22,844. Bold N Beautiful finished eighth, adding $21,087 to the earnings for Gentry Farms and trainer John Stinebaugh, while Curl Happy Wagon rounded out the order of finish in ninth, earning $17,574 for Jackpot Farm and trainer Ricardo Armendariz Jr.
