CALGARY, ALBERTA–OCTOBER 18, 2025–It came down to a photo finish at the wire between One Tough Cerveza and Hez D Man, but One Tough Cerveza refused to be denied, winning the nod in Saturday’s $43,053 Alberta Bred Futurity-RG3 at Century Downs.
Under jockey Daniel Tavares, the Alberta-bred son of Cerveza Corona stopped the timer in 18.022 seconds and earned an 85 speed index. One Tough Cerveza’s winning effort awarded backers with $4.90 to win as the 7-5 post-time favorite.
The victory marked the first stakes win and first at the 350-yard distance for One Tough Cerveza, who had been knocking on the door all season. After placing second in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity and third in the Sale Stakes Futurity earlier in the year, he finally broke through to score his first stakes triumph.

Trained by Misael Moreno for owners Barry and Janice Sather, One Tough Cerveza earned $19,769 (U.S.) for the win, boosting his lifetime bankroll to $40,619 from eight starts that include two wins, three seconds, and one third.
Bred in Alberta by Charles G. Stojan, One Tough Cerveza is out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Toughie, by Stel Corona. The cross of Cerveza Corona and Toughie continues to deliver, with another foal from the same mare finishing third in this Futurity final.
Hez D Man, a gritty competitor throughout his juvenile campaign, finished a head back in second after breaking inward and dueling all the way to the wire. The gelded son of Uncle D clocked 18.038 seconds with an 84 speed index under jockey Cristian Benitez for trainer Buckey A. Stockwell. He races for Commotion Creek Contracting and WT Ranches, Ltd. and was bred by Morgan Luhoff out of Ll Talitha, by Dealagame.
From eight career starts, Hez D Man has recorded one win, four seconds, and two thirds with $36,638 in earnings. His résumé includes multiple black type finishes this season, running second in both the Century Mile Juvenile Challenge and Sale Stakes Futurity, and third in the Can Cup Futurity-G3.
Finishing third was Totoughforyou (AB), another Cerveza Corona offspring out of Toughie, by Stel Corona, giving breeder Charles G. Stojan an impressive one-three finish in the Alberta Bred Futurity. The gelding was ridden by Ricardo Moreno for trainer and owner William H. Leech, stopping the clock in 18.158 seconds with an 81 speed index.
Still seeking his first career victory, Totoughforyou has five starts, including one second and two third-place finishes, and $9,244 in earnings. He was also a finalist in the Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity in August.
Fourth-place finisher Wagon Burner 109, ridden by O. Hernandez for trainer Buckey A. Stockwell, drifted in during the stretch after being in contention early and weakened late to finish in 18.212 seconds. Rounding out the top five was Insta Bond, piloted by Alexander Marti for trainer Craig Smith and owner Darby Danard.
