GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 8, 2025— Under clear skies and a strong 16-mph tailwind, Set On Cruise surged late to capture the $97,685 Texas Hero Futurity (G1) for 2-year-old Paints and Appaloosas at Lone Star Park.
The bay filly, by leading APHA sire CRM Livewire out of Lindys Sign by Second Painted Sign, stopped the clock in 19.627 seconds with a 95 speed index on a fast track.
Ridden by Bryan Candanosa for owners and breeders Dan and Kaye Jones, and trained by Matt Whitekiller, Set On Cruise vied throughout before edging clear late to win by a neck, earning the winner’s share of $37,120.
Winner of the $20,000 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Juvenile at Fair Meadows last summer, Set On Cruise has won three of eight starts and earned $41,288.
Turnpike Jammer, a gray gelding by world champion Painted Turnpike out of Mammy Jammer by CRM Livewire, broke sharply and maintained his stride through the lane, narrowly missing victory by a nose.
Guided by Erik N. Esqueda for owners Carla Akers and Randy D. Perkins, the Victor Oviedo trainee earned $16,606 for the runner-up finish. The gelding was bred in Oklahoma by Roy Kent Perkins. Also second in futurities at Remington Park and Fair Meadows this season, Turnpike Jammer has earned over $77,000.
Old Habits New Tricks, a brown gelding by first-crop Quarter Horse sire San Lorenzo out of Expressions N Snow by SM Country Snowman, closed strongly between horses to finish third, a half-length behind the winner.
Ridden by Mario Delgado for owner 918 Bloodstock and trained by Dee Keener, the Sharon Hafliger-bred gelding collected $10,745 for his effort. The multiple stakes-placed gelding has earned more than $78000 in 11 starts.
Set On Cruise returned $29.40 to win, $11.60 to place, and $6.60 to show. Turnpike Jammer paid $6.20 to place and $4.20 to show, while Old Habits New Tricks returned $5.20 to show.
The $1 exacta (7-2) paid $86.20, the 50-cent trifecta (7-2-6) paid $127.25, and the 10-cent superfecta (7-2-6-1) returned $296.75.
