OPELOUSAS, LA—DECEMBER 20, 2025—C The Power scored his twentieth victory after taking home the win in Saturday’s $40,000 Leverne Perry Stakes at Evangeline Downs.
C The Power stopped the clock in 13.329 seconds for a 92 speed index while racing 250 yards against a 10 mph headwind. The gray gelding earned $24,000 for the victory, which returned $9.80 to win on 7-2 odds.
Breaking fourth from the gates under jockey Humberto Vital, C The Power drifted out and quickly took command, edging clear through the lane to score by three-quarters of a length.
Trained by Juan Montoya Jr. for owner Juan M. Montoya Sr., the four-year-old has now made 20 starts with five wins, two seconds, and two thirds, pushing him past the six-figure earnings mark with lifetime earnings of $106,773.
The son of Power Jam (TB) is out of the First Down Dash mare High Plains Prize, and was bred in Louisiana by Ken O’Brien. C the Power earned his second stakes victory of the season and collected his fourth career black-type placing this year across three different tracks.
In addition to the Leverne Perry Stakes, C The Power won the Delta Dash Stakes, finished second in the Titanium Stakes-G3, and placed third in the BOCO Overnight Stakes earlier this season.
San Lorenzo Jezz finished a game second after showing early foot and battling throughout under jockey Arturo Alvarez. The bay filly is trained by Juan Garcia for owner-breeder Rogelio Marquez Jr.
The daughter of American Hussle is out of the Jess Louisiana Blue mare Jezz Chick. San Lorenzo Jezz has hit the board in eight of nine career starts, compiling a record of five wins, two seconds, and one third with earnings of $392,241. The three-year-old was the Lee Berwick Futurity-G1 winner during her juvenile campaign and has now won two of four starts this season.
Third went to the veteran Tuckers Prize, who closed late after encountering traffic to finish a length behind San Lorenzo Jezz. Ridden by Ubaldo Luna, the nine-year-old gelding is trained and owned by Preston Jourdan.
The son of Fast Prize Dash is out of the Game Patriot mare Bb Secrets Game, abd was bred in Louisiana by Kirby and Phillip Bruchhaus. Tuckers Prize owns a remarkable career record of 60 starts with 20 wins, 14 seconds, and nine thirds with $422,590 in earnings. A multiple stakes winner, he was coming off a victory in the EVD Dash Stakes in his previous start.
Nbc Mr Booz finished fourth, followed by Venus Tlc in fifth, Tf Jess A Eagle sixth, Jes Winnin Cartel seventh, Ttt La Kas eighth, Tk Sweet Eyes ninth, and G Amtrak B rounding out the order of finish in tenth.
