FARMINGTON, NM–APRIL 24, 2026– GBH Cowboy delivered a dominant performance to post the fastest qualifying time to the Four Corners Futurity on Friday night at SunRay Park, leading a group of juveniles who will return for the May 23 final.
Breaking sharply from the inside, GBH Cowboy quickly took control and was never threatened, drawing off to win by 2 1/4 lengths while stopping the clock in :17.297 seconds for 350 yards, earning a 96 speed index.
The effort marked the fastest time of the trials and showcased the gelding’s continued progression following a finalist effort in the Grade 2 West Texas Futurity earlier this season.
Bred by Gary Hartstack, GBH Cowboy is owned by Tungsten Racing Partnership, trained by Eric Valenzuela and ridden by Jose Luis Enriquez. The gelding now sports a record of 3-2-0-0 with earnings of $16,019.
A $41,000 graduate of the TQHA Yearling Sale, he is sired by Flying Cowboy 123, a standout young sire with more than $18.6 million in progeny earnings from just four crops to race.
He is out of the winning FDD Dynasty mare GBH Lightning, a half-sister to stakes winner GBH Fiscal Toni ($111,730), from the family of stakes winner Diamonds For Toni and stakes producer Zazoom.
Second fastest qualifier Cyber Lawyer finished a clear second in the same trial, stopping the clock in :17.661 seconds with an 85 speed index. The gelding broke fourth before advancing into contention and holding position throughout to secure his spot in the final.
Bred by Absolute Refrigeration, O. Munoz and P. Leyva, he is owned by Leyva Racing Stables and Absolute Refrigeration, trained by Lauren McQueen and ridden by Gabriel Medrano. The lightly raced gelding was making just his second career start. He is sired by leading sire Cyber Monday and is out of the Jess Good Candy mare Candy Crest.
Third fastest qualifier Ghirardelli Dark turned in an impressive debut effort, winning his trial in :17.664 seconds while earning an 85 speed index. After breaking sharply, the gelding quickly took command and held off challengers to cross the wire a length in front.
A homebred for Cavenaugh Quarter Horses LLC, Ghirardelli Dark is trained by Clinton Crawford and was ridden by Jacob Enriquez.
The gelding is by Grade 1 finalist Good Candy P and out of the stakes-placed First Moonflash mare Dark Moon. His pedigree traces to stakes winner Flare For Ivory ($91,959) and champion Special Phoebe ($139,963), as well as champion broodmare Dashing Phoebe.
