Mr Truly Uno Battles To Victory In Big Daddy Stakes

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 10, 2012—The $35,900 SLM Big Daddy Stakes at 550 yards was won by Mr Truly Uno on Saturday night at Remington Park. He posted a neck victory over a tough William Henry as the pair hooked up in a prolonged duel for more than half the race, fighting to the finish together while 1-1/2 lengths clear of their nearest competitor.

Owned by Sally Box of Aubrey, Texas and trained by Sleepy Gilbreath, jockey Roy Baldillez guided Mr Truly Uno to the triumph in his first race ever at the long stretch distance of 550-yards. The 5-year-old gelding was making his first start of 2012 and may now be set for more activity in the stakes series for older horses through the rest of the Remington Park season.

Mr Truly Uno handled the 550 yards in :26.883 seconds over the fast track.

Away at 5-1 odds, Mr Truly Uno paid $12 to win, $5.20 to place and $4.40 to show. William Henry returned $7 to place and $4 to show. Chi Ter was third, paying $3.20 to show as the beaten 9-5 wagering favorite.

Bred in Texas by Jacque Tanton, Mr Truly Uno is by Feature Mr Jess from the Tolltac mare Truley Yours. He has now won four of 11 career starts with the SLM Big Daddy his second Remington Park triumph overall. The winner’s share of $20,730 moved the lifetime earnings for Mr Truly Uno to $108,865.

The stakes race is named in honor of SLM Big Daddy, a two-time American Quarter Horse Association World Champion in 1997 and 1998, who rose to prominence over a three-year period at Remington Park while going on to earn more than a million dollars.

$33,250 Prissy Gold Digger Handicap

Oklahoma-bred 3-year-old fillies were in the sub-feature Saturday at 330 yards with BV Valentine Wagon rolling to half-length win over Haulin Candy Salt.

Owned by Bella Vista Farms of Arcola, Ill and trained by Eddie Lee Willis, BV Valentine Wagon was ridden by Kenny Muntz. She won her third consecutive race, dating back to March 18, 2011. All four of her career starts have taken place at Remington Park.

At 7-2 in the wagering, BV Valentine Wagon pair $9.80 to win, $4.20 to place and $2.80 to show. Haulin Candy Salt paid $2.60 to place and $2.60 to show. CC Dynasty was another two lengths back of the runner-up, paying $4.20 to show. Ranch Candy was the beaten 4-5 wagering favorite. She was away poorly at the start, breaking slightly into the air and missing her opportunity. v BV Valentine Wagon made $19,896 for the Prissy Gold Digger Handicap win, jumping her career bankroll to $49,950. She was bred in Oklahoma by her owner and is a filly by PYC Paint Your Wagon from the Eyesa Special mare Eyesa First.

The Prissy Gold Digger Handicap is named after the multiple stakes winning mare from the late 1970s who won the 1977 Kansas Futurity at Ruidoso Downs, which was then the beginning of Quarter Horse racing’s Triple Crown. She was owned by Bob Moore of Norman, Okla. and earned nearly $300,000 on the track before becoming a prominent broodmare.

Remington Park conducted 11 races during a Saturday program sprinkled with light rain throughout the night. The 11 events featured victories by 11 different trainers and 11 different jockeys.

Sunday racing will conclude the second weekend of the 2012 Remington Park American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season with action beginning at 1:30pm.

Registration is now open for the Remington Park High Q Test, a free online handicapping contest for the 2012 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season. The High Q Test will begin on Friday, March 16 and continue thru the final day of the season, Memorial Day Monday, May 28.
