VINTON, LA—MAY 25, 2012—Santiago Castillo’s 2-year-old gelding Rdd Dashin Effort won the $81,002 Old South Futurity at Delta Downs on Friday night under jockey Arturo Carrillo. The Jonathan Castaneda trainee defeated Jet Black Legend by a head as Chickie Kool wound up another neck behind the top pair in third position at the finish line.
Rdd Dashin Effort stopped the clock in a time of 16.564 over a fast track for 330 yards. That time equaled a speed index of 97.
The win by Rdd Dashin Effort marked the third of his four-race career and provided him with his biggest payday of $40,501. He now boasts a lifetime bankroll of $47,431.
Rdd Dashin Effort is a son of Dashin Bye, out of the Streakin Effort mare Miss Native Effort. Richard Dale Domingue bred him in Louisiana.
Jet Black Legend, a gelding by Game Patriot, is owned by Oscar Rhone and trained by Kenny Roberts, Sr. John Hamilton was aboard to earn $14,771.
Jose Vera Jr. races Chickie Kool, a Country Chicks Man filly out of First Kool Baby, by First Down Dash. Also trained by Jonathan Castaneda, Chickie Kook was ridden by Luis Vivanco.
Completing the field were Sheaintcrynrealtears, Jessacountryboy, Shinning Tellercartel, Ttt Kellys Walker, Kodiak B and Sweet N Dashing.
Old South Derby
In other stakes activity on Friday night it was Renee E. Spiller’s Triple Vodka who took the $52,550 Old South Derby for 3-year-olds going 400 yards.
Antonio Carrizales Jess Fly With Me earned $8,934 for second. Eusevio Huitron saddled the Fly Jess Fly gelding. Santos Carrizales was riding.
Sizzlin Cartel finished 1-¼ lengths back in the show position for owner J.E. Jumonville, Jr. and trainer Kenneth Weeks. Ridden by Gilbert Ortiz, the Corona For Me colt earned $5,255.
Jls Crawfish Pie, Hot Tickin, Senorita Perry, Runaway Russo, Jetset N Lajolla and Danielle And Daisies completed the field.
Develop A Plan Stakes
Heath Taylor also saddled First Klas Fred to win the $25,450 Develop A Plan Stakes(G3) for older horses traveling 350 yard. Leading rider John Hamilton was aboard the Fredricksburg 5-year-old, who is owned by Denis and Julie Schoenhofer.
Charal Kid finished a nose back for owner/breeder Malinche Cattle Co., Inc. Saddled by Eusevio Huitron, Santos Carrizales rode the Streakin La Jolla 6-year-old.
Jose Vera Jr's Kool Country Man was another nose back in third. The Country Chicks Man gelding is trained by Jonathan Castaneda and ridden by Alfonso Lujan.
Eyesa Western, Heza Gonna Dash, Stones Puede, Feature Mr Alliance and Royal Invasor completed the order of finish.
Live racing resumes at Delta Downs on Saturday night with post time set for 6:45 p.m. The Saturday program features the $252,337 Louisiana Lassie Futurity (RG2) as well as the $225,337 Louisiana Laddie Futurity (RG2). The $40,000 Louisiana Purchase is also on the under card.
