Ivory James Dominates Stakes Trials at Arapahoe Park on Friday

AURORA, CO—JUNE 1, 2012—Last season's leading first crop sire Ivory James dominated the Cherry Creek Futurity(RG3) trials and the Lucille Rowe Derby trials on Friday at Arapahoe Park. The son of leading sire Corona Cartel sired four futurity and three derby finalists on the afternoon.

The 10 fastest two-year-olds from four trials for the $75,000-added Cherry Creek Futurity(RG3) will return to the Colorado raceway on June 17th and vie for the winner's purse in the 330 yard event for Colorado-breds. The $50,000-estimated Lucille Rowe Derby, for Colorado-bred 3-year-olds will run on June 16th at a distance of 350 yards.

Cherry Creek Futurity

Under jockey Flavio Lozano, Im Rowdy James posted a one-length victory in the last of four futurity trials for owner Luis Rogelio Nava. Jose Gonzalez, Sr. saddled the Ivory James colt that clocked the top time of :17.130 time in his first career win in three starts. Bill and Marsha Drake bred him from the Especially Rare mare Eyes Especially Rare.

Ivory James also sired 3rd qualifier Avatar 2010, 4th qualifier Kansas Ivory and 9th qualifier Shiney Ivory.

Richard and Genevieve Herrman's homebred Iza Sugar N Spice won the second trial by ¾'s of a length to get the second fastest time of :17.246. Hipolito Michel-Valverde saddled the Toast To Dash filly out the Mr Eye Opener mare Iza Fyin Eye. Elliot Bachicha, Jr. rode her.

First crop sires and champions' Ketel Won and One Famous Eagle also sired Cherry Creek Futurity finalist.

Lucille Rowe Derby

Hugo Barron Sierra's homebred Baby I Like It cruised to the fastest derby trial time under jockey Alejandro Luna with a 1 ¼ length victory over Busy Doin Noting. Jose Manuel Barron saddled the Ivory James colt who stopped the timer at :17.582 seconds. Last season's Cherry Creek Futurity winner is out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Baby La Jolla.

The aforementioned Busy Doin Nuthin, an Ocean Runaway gelding owned and bred by Robert Gutke, held on for the third fastest time of :17.797 under jockey Russell Vicchrilli. Farrell Christoffersen trains the bay 3-year-old out of Ronatac, by Tolltac.

Jose Castro's Always Furst won the first trial by 1 ½ lengths to get the second best time of :17.588. Hipolito Michel-Valverde trains the Dream On gelding out of Glow N Go Tell, by Genuine Strawfly. Ridden by Elliot Bachicha, Jr., he was bred by Fidel Roybal.

Ivory James sired three finalists, while Dream On got two.
