ALTOONA, IA—OCTOBER 26, 2012—Jockey Stormy Smith rode the Jim Bader Futurity winner, Polk County Derby winner and Future Of Iowa Stakes winner for trainer Brent Clay to kick-off the Bank of America Challenge Championship weekend at Prairie Meadows on Friday night.
Friday’s Iowa Champions Night brought out the premier Iowa-bred American Quarter Horses who contested six Iowa-bred stakes races.
Jim Bader Futurity
Bouncing off a second-place effort to Catchin Fire in the October 12 trials, Tellher To Fly dug in gamely Friday night to race to a half-length win over her nemesis in the $128,500 Jim Bader Futurity. Stormy Smith rode the homebred Teller Cartel filly of Robert and Sandra Brown to :17.832 clocking, picking up the winner's purse of $51,400. With a 4-3-1-0 record, the sorrel miss has earned $72,757 this season.
Brent Clay conditions the filly out of the Strawfly Special mare Two Sick To Fly.
Catchin Fire, owned by Tom Lepic and trained by Kasey Willis, settled for second after riding a three-race win streak into the finals. The $21,845 place check pushed her career total to more than $63,500. Agustin Sliva was aboard the Harvey Far bred Chicks A Blazin filly out of the Cowboys Rodeo mare Rodeo Rona.
Another half-length back Tcf New Love earned $12,850 for owner John Lawless. Also saddled by Brent Clay, the Rare News filly is out of Manets Lovenromance, by Rolls Of Romance. Juan Vazquez had the riding assignment. Jeremiah and Carrie Sperfslage is the breeder.
Completing the field were Tcf Sixoclock News, Ivorys Special Lady, Takin, Burn Down Sweet, Chicks Dig Gold, Mrf First Danali, Makes Alota Sense.
Polk County Derby
In the $94,400 Polk County Derby responded gamely under jockey Stormy Smith top post a two-length winning effort over Brimmin. County The Menace finished 1-¼ lengths back in the show position.

Brimmin is a homebred son of Brimmerton racing for Craig Kirby. Also trained by Clay, the gray gelding was ridden by Doug Frink. Out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Eye Speed Too, Brimmin earned $16,992 for his effort.
Starlet and Charlton Hunt own Count The Menace, an Executive Menace gelding out of Countess Rare Bar, by Rare Bar. Cody Smith was riding with Charlton Hunt saddling. Ryan Bachman is the breeder.
Mississippi Bad Boy, Rock Bass, Pyc Biscuit and Chicks Fly completed the field. Jess A Lil Twisted was scratched.
Terrace Hill Stakes
Warren Garrels homebred Iris Cartelsbadnews raced to a 1¼ length win over Shake Em Streakin in the 400 yard $67,600 Terrace Hill Stakes, winning his fourth straight races at the Iowa racecourse. The $27,675 winner's purse pushed the bay's earnings mark to more than $192,000.
Amy Wessels trains with Berkley Packer getting the riding assignment aboard the Agouti 5-year-old out of the Merganser mare Another Hot Idea.
Owned by Brent and Karen Clay and trained by Brent, Shake Em Streakin picked dup $12,150 for second. Juan Vazquez rode the Shake Em Open 5-year-old out of Miss Fine La Jolla, by Streakin La Jolla.
Kay Sage's Wheres Your Wagon finished three-quarters back in the show position. Kirk Wessels conditions the Pyc Paint Your Wagon 4-year-old out of Yawls Spreadn Rumors, by Serious Rumors. He earned $7,427 under jockey Stormy Smith.
Mean Fastball, Diamond Cruzer, Hadleybestoned, Eyeowa Cyclone and Man N Black completed the field.

Future Of Iowa Stakes
Sheri Andrew's homebred Jess A Lil Twisted responded gamely under jockey Stormy Smith to defeat The Regal Streak by two lengths in the $67,500 Future Of Iowa Stakes. Trs A Classy Dash was third.

Clay also saddled The Regal Streak, an A Regal Choice mare for Michael Ahern. Craig Kirby bred the 5-year-old from the Raise A Secret mare Raise A Sixy. Ridden by Oscar Delgado, she earned $12,096 for the effort.
Trs A Classy Dash, is a 4-year-old Hot Shot Dash filly owned and bred by Vernon Hammes. Ronald Sayre trains with Troy Crissup riding. The sorrel miss, out of Pure Ol Class by Ronas Ryon, earned $7,392.
Shake Your Moneymaker, Ru A Quick Cat, Rhinestone Ready, Hail Yez and Jump N Streak completed the order of finish.
Iowa Stallion Futurity
Fastest qualifier Immahotdude dug in gamely Friday evening to reward his backers with a half-length victory in the $51,850 Iowa Stallion Futurity. Under jockey Doug Frink, the Hot Shot Dash gelding completed the 350 yards in :17.842 seconds. Saddled by Tony Dean Jones, the $20,740 winner's paycheck boosted his career total to $39,297 after winning three of four starts this year.

Clarinda Rohweder's homebred McR Abbey Rose picked up $8,814 for second. Kirk Wessels conditions the Hot Shot Dash filly out of Sissy Slick, by One Slick One. Mark Luark had the riding call.
Trs Justamazingpadon, also by Hot Shot Dash, finished a nose back in the show position for owner/breeders Vernon Hammes. Ronald Sayre conditioned with Troy Crissup riding. He earned $5,185 for the effort.
Completing the order of finish were Trs Just Like Nate, Ithinkimhotwo, Iris Garvelso, Dora Be Quick, Princess Reese, Mr Buck Ten and Bs Silencer.
Iowa Stallion Derby
Owned, bred-and-trained by Tony Dean Jones, Yougottobekiddinme was clear throughout to win the $39,000 Iowa Stallion Derby by 1 ¾ lengths over Trs Bootscootn Skirt. Hot Shot Junior finished a neck behind for third.

Ronald Sayre trains Trs Bootscottn Skirt for owner/breeder Vernon Hammes. Mark Lanark rode the Skirt Chasin Alibi gelding out of Boot N Scootn Boogie, by Ramblin Rumble. He earned $6,630.
Hammes also bred Hot Shot Junior, a Hot Shot Dash gelding racing for Refugio Dominguez and trained by Jerry Miller. Luis Vazquez was aboard the 3-year-old out of the Moon Control mare Monita Moon. He picked up $3,900 for the effort.
Casino Black, Habanero Estrella, Pistolpaknprincess, Hey Bubba, Chasin Ettas Alibi, El Dorao and Stormin Gogo completed the field.
Q Racing Video Distance Stakes
In the only under card stakes for non-Iowan breds, Nancy Yearsley and J. Garvin Kelly's Free Stater posted a 2 ¼ length victory in the 870 yard $25,000 Q-Racing Video Distance Stakes.

Charley Hunt trains the Oklahoma-bred with Stormy Smith getting the riding assignment. It was the first career stakes win for Free Stater, who came into the race off a third place effort in the Prairie Meadows Distance Challenge on September 15.
Snow Kan, a Royal Evening Snow gelding owned and trained by Donald Davidson, Jr. earned $5,125 for second. Thomas Wellington had the riding assignment aboard the 5-year-old out of Kita Kan, by Me Go Bye Bye. E. Dale Anderson is the breeder.
Tom Maher's Jack Jessee was 1 ½ lengths back to earn $2,500 for third. Ernest Fennell trains the Jesses Sixes 3-year-old out of Lotta Drift, by No Drift (TB). Jeramie Fennel was aboard the L & M Partners' Texas bred.
Oh Cooper Go, Haulin Thunder, Down N Cool and Ride Lonesome completed the field.
