Favorite Cartel's Dominate Los Alamitos Two Million Final and Juvenile

CYPRESS, CA—DECEMBER 15, 2019—Favorite Cartel's 2-year-olds not only took the top four spots in the $1.9 million Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) Sunday night, they were also the top seven finishers in the $30,000 Los Alamitos Juvenile Invitational.

The leading 2-year-old sire of Money Earners for 2019, Favorite Cartel has sired 13 freshmen stakes winners, and earnings of $4,283,595 this year. He is also the #1 Leading Sire of Stakes winners in 2019 with 21 and the #2 Leading Sire of Money Earners with nearly $7.6 million.

Ronald Hartley's Cartel Jess Rockin bounced off a second place effort to Flokie in the November 24 trials to defeat Cattail Cove at 21-1 odds by three-quarters of a length in the $1,903,275 Los Alamitos Million Futurity(G1) Sunday night at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Conditioned by longtime trainer John Cooper, the filly by leading 2-year-old sire Favorite Cartel surged late under jockey Juan Leon to get her third win in nine starts this season. She completed the 400 yards in :19.628 seconds, equaling a 96 speed index on the track labeled fast.

The California-bred was fourth in the Governor's Cup Futurity(G2) and Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity(G2) earlier this season. The $781,736 "million" payday booster her earnings mark to $840,640.

Bred by Reed Land & Cattle and Levings Racing, Hartley purchased the filly as an embryo in the 2017 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale for $18,000. Cartel Jess Rocking is out of the Grade 1 winning Feature Mr Jess mare Feature Jess Rocking, winner of the AQHA Challenge Championship in ?. She set a new Fair Grounds Race Course 440 yard track record of :21.262 in that race.

Owner Link Newcomb, who qualified two horses to Sunday's rich final, purchased runner-up Cattail Cove for $62,000 in the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Also by Favorite Cartel, Cattail Cove, out of the Separatist mare Katie Katella, is a brother to Rocky Mountain Futurity winner Wait and half-brother to three other black type. The second dam is the AQHA Dam of Distinction Oh La Proud, the dam of eight black type including champions Hawkish and Hawkinson.

Juan Aleman conditions Cattail Cove who was also a finalist in the Governor's Cup Futurity(G2) in July. The brown gelding has won three of 7 starts this season and boosted his earnings to $372,407 after pocketing $316,417 in the "million". Carlos Huerta was riding.

Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) winner Flokie finished a neck back in third for owners Jose Antonio Flores and Francisco Diaz. Flores also trains the Favorite Cartel gelding out of Lady Nayen by Check Him Out.

The $10,700 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale graduate has compiled a (7) 4-0-2 record this season. The $223,353 third-place "million" payday pushes the brown geldings earnings total to $703,253. Jairo Rangel was riding.

Completing the "Million" field were fastest qualifier Nomadic, followed by Kiss Thru Fire, Mr Ricks, Runforyourlife, Sacred Nation, Up And Coming and Up And Atem.

Ron and Jeryl Hartley's Chickititas Favorite book ended his 2-year-old season with wins in the both the $30,000 Los Alamitos Juvenile Invitational and the Golden State Juvenile Invitational. John Cooper conditions the California homebred out of Chickitita by Tac It Like A Man. Ridden by Juan Leon, the brown gelding picked up $13,800 to boost his bankroll to $60,395. Juan Leon was riding.
