GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 15, 2020—Lone Star Park hosted the Grade 1, $67,170 Lone Star Paint and Appaloosa Futurity and the $37,650 Lone Star Paint and Appaloosa Claiming Derby on Sunday night.
Grade 1, $67,170 Lone Star Paint and Appaloosa Futurity
Wf Turnpike Candy held off Separate Wagons by a head in the $67,170 Lone Star Paint and Appaloosa Futurity(G1) Sunday evening at Lone Star Park.
Under jockey Juan Pulido, Wf Turnpike Candy showed early speed then held to complete the 350 yards in :17.740 seconds, equaling a 93 speed index. It was the fourth win in 11 starts for the son of world champion Painted Turnpike. The $25,525 winners' purse boosted the gelding earnings mark to $106,220.
Trainer Dee Kenner saddled the multiple stakes winner for owner Painted Faith Racing. Keener and Steve Wright bred Wf Turnpike Candy in Oklahoma from the County Chicks Man mare Sw Eye Candy.
Victor R. Villarreal's Vp Cold Strong Heart finished a neck back in the blanket finish to get third. Rodrigo Vallejo rode the daughter This Cartel Is Cold for trainer Martin Rodriguez. Bred in Texas by Francisco Villareal, from the Dos Poruno mare Double Dashing Girl, Vp Cold Strong Heart picked up $7,389 for the effort.
Fastest qualifier Wb Stevie Nix finished fourth followed by Tales U Lose, Break Away James, Js Shezaquickhick, Captain Capi and Dangerous Dan McGrew.

Jess Cruzin, an Appaloosa son of leading second-crop QH sire Hes Relentless, rolled to a three-quarter length win over Invisable Paint Brush in the $37,650 Lone Star Paint and Appaloosa Claiming Derby on Sunday Night.

Banking On Kool, a son multiple stakes sire Kool Wagon, finished one-length back to earn $4,142 for third. Eli Martinez trains the gelding for owner Laurentino Martinez. Jerry Yoakum had the riding call on the Oklahoma-bred out of Thank The Bank by Raise A Winner. H.T. Churchwell is the breeder.
