Vvr Sugar Sugar Surprises with $58,850 Wyoming Stallion Breeders Futurity Win at Sweetwater

ROCK SPRINGS, WY—AUGUST 28, 2021—The three fastest qualifiers returned to finish in the top three in the $58,850 Wyoming Stallion Breeders Futurity at Sweetwater Downs, with Vvr Sugar Sugar leading the way.

The 300-yard event was restricted to 2-year-olds sired by accredited Wyoming Bred Stallions.

Vvr Sugar Sugar ($25.60) and Jesus Valenzuela won by a nose and finished in 15.526 to earn a 99 speed index in the gate-to-wire victory.

The Whata Corona Runner filly was the third fastest qualifier from four trials on August 14. Diana Garfias trains for owner Carter Garfias. She was bred by Mike Lipp, out of Highheeled La Jolla, by Streakin La Jolla.

Vvr Sugar Sugar broke her maiden in the trial and is now two for five lifetime with $25,860 earned, including $23,540 from Saturday’s futurity. Prior to trials, she competed in maiden races at Energy Downs and ran in a trial at Wyoming Downs.

Second fastest qualifier Eyesa Special Swirl finished second with Luis Peralta for trainer Jesse Villegas.

Eyesa Special Swirl is owned and bred by Broken Bones Cattle Company, out of Lil Charolette Swirl, by Sixs Charlie Brown.

Eyesa Special Swirl was a neck behind Vvr Workin Man in the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity. She also competed in the Wyoming Bred Futurity in Gillette and the Bucking Horse Sale Futurity in Miles City and won all three of her qualifiers to the finals. She is four for eight lifetime with $25,260 earned to date.

Fastest qualifier Vvr Workin Man and David Jimenez finished third in the final. The Whata Corona Runner colt shares the same connections as Vvr Sugar Sugar and is out of Proud Caption, by Proudest Effort.

Vvr Workin Man was the post-time favorite in both the trial and the final, having qualified to two futurities this summer. He was second in the Wyoming Bred Futurity in Gillette in June and most recently finished fourth in the Ron Cook Wyoming Bred Futurity at Wyoming Downs in July. He is three for seven lifetime with $25,302 earned.

Completing the field were Eyesa Special Gilly, Cayenneoverthemoon, Eyesa Special Piper, Yo Brindis Zazzy, Two Bac, Yo Brindis Delite and Kcross Jungle Pat.
