SELMA, TX–AUGUST 20, 2022–Phreedom, a 2-year-old son of champion sire Tempting Dash, dueled early under jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr., then drew away from the field to win the $175,000 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity(RG2) by 1-3/4 lengths Saturday night at Retama Park.
Starting tonight as the third fastest qualifier, from the six trials contested August 5, Phreedom completed the 350 yards in :17.682 seconds, equaling a 101-speed index into a 14 mph headwind.
Trainer Toby Keeton conditions the $50,000 TQHA Sale graduate for owner Three Bar T Quarter Horses. With two wins in five starts, the Texas-bred gelding used the $70,000 winner’s purse to boost his earnings total to $80,550.

Flaming Pistol Pete, an Oklahoma-bred son of All American Futurity(G1) winner Mr Piloto, finished second to earn $35,000. Trainer Jason Driver named jockey Ali Rivera to ride the 2-year-old gelding for owner Debbie Grimes. A.D. Burris bred Flaming Pistol Pete from the First To Shine mare Flaming First Shine.
A head back Ponte Trucha picked up $17,500 for third. Josue Huitron trains the Duponte gelding for owner Armando Cortez. Winner of the Louisiana Downs Futurity(G3) and third in the Sam Houston Futurity(G2) earlier this year Ponte Trucha has earned $245,201 in six starts.
Rancho El Cabresto Inc. bred the bay in California from the Apollitical Jess mare Apollitical Dasher. Heriberto Aguilar-Orozco had the riding call.
Lil Freighttrain, Queens R Tempting, Chilli Red, Jeg Fascination, Famous Corona Win and Ls Coronita Dancer completed the field.
