Champion Cyber Attack Sets Top Mark In $892,666 Ruidoso Derby Trials Sunday Afternoon

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–MAY 28, 2023–Racing continued Memorial Day weekend with 3-year-olds taking the state at Ruidoso Downs with 10 trials on Sunday's race card for the Grade 1 $892,666 Ruidoso Derby.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will face off on Saturday June 10th to vie for the $374,919 winner's share of the purse going 400 yards.

Last year's AQHA Racing Champion 2-Year-Old Colt Cyber Attack did not disappoint in his 3-year-old debut when he bested Ivory Senator by a neck in the seventh trial to set the day's top qualifing time of :19.599 seconds, a 95 speed index into a 13 mph headwind. Jockey Eduardo Nicasio back in the saddle for the first official start since winning the $1,857,225 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1) on December 11, 2023.

Trainer Christopher O'Dell conditions the royally bred Favorite Cartel colt for owner Rosenthal Ranch, Inc. Also second in the Rainbow Futurity(G1) and the Golden State Futurity(G1) last year, Cyber Attack has won five out of eight starts and banked $1,157,917.  Steve D. Burns, DVM bred the brown colt from the AQHA Racing Dam of Distinction Remember Me Rose by Corona Cartel.

Ivory Senator whose at the top of his game while coming of two consecutive wins at Remington Park, including the Grade 3 Mr Master Bug Stakes, held on to the second fastest clocking of :19.635 seconds, a 95 speed index for owner-breeder Louis A. Malechek III. 

Trainer Ricardo Armendariz, Jr. named jockey Juan Pulido to ride the graded stakes winning son of multiple stakes sire Louisiana Senator from the Ivory James mare Ivory Teaspoon.  A supplement to the Ruidoso Derby and making his first start at Ruidoso Downs, Ivory Senator has won four of nine starts and earned $115,624. 

Making his first start since winning the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity in December at Lone Star Park, Rack A Jess V finished 1-1/4 lengths back in the fastest trial but still maintained the thrid fastest time of :19.803, a 90 speed index.

Francisco Calderon rode the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess for owner-breeder Valeriano Racing Stables, LLC and trainer Santos Carrizales, Jr. Bred from the Good Reason SA mare Rock Candy SA, Rock A Jess V has banked $676,823 in 10 career starts.
