Dark Nme Dominates Day 1 $1,000,000 Rainbow QH Futurity Trials at Ruidoso Downs

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–JUNE 20, 2023–Dark Nme, winner of the $804,150 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity (RG1) on April 22, rolled over competition in the fourth of 16 trials today to set the fastest qualifying time for the Grade 1 $1,000,000 Ruidoso QH Futurity on Day 1 of time trials.

The five fastest qualifiers from today will join the five fastest from Friday's 16 trials to return to the Mountain racetrack and vie for a winner's purse valued at $420,000 on Sunday July 16.

You would think with a 3-1/4 length winning effort under champion jockey Francisco Calderon that Dark Nme may have drawn into an easy trial heat.

She didn't, the second and third place finishers in the trial both qualified to rich Rainbow final including the likes of Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1) runner-up Wired 440 (third) and Scream Machine (second), a $240,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate making his career debut.

A $65,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate, Dark Nme ran a perfect race from the 10 hold to stop the clock at :19.661 seconds, a 94-speed index into a 10 mph headwind, by far they day's fastest race.
