Late Surge Gives Js Apollitical Chick Fastest Time In Pot O’Gold Futurity Trials Monday

CLAREMORE, OK–SEPTEMBER 18, 2023–Bouncing off a fourth-place finishing the Speedhorse Paint& Appaloosa Futurity July 22, Js Apollitical Chick posted the fastest qualifying time for the Grade 1 Pot O’Gold Futurity for 2-year-old Paints and Appaloosas today at Will Rogers Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return on Monday, October 2nd to vie for the winner’s share of a $78,705 purse at a distance of 350 yards.

A late surge under jockey Daniel Torres gave Js Apollitical Chick a half-length victory over Drank Like Hank in the second trial. The son of Mr Apollitical Dash completed the 350 yard task in :17.770 seconds, equaling a 93 speed index into a 9 mph crosswind, to establish the top qualifying mark.

Leading trainer Dee Keener saddled the Oklahoma homebred for owner-breeder Shirley Wheeler. Bred from the Dos Poruno mare Imachickenkicker, Js Apollitical Dash has earned $14,287 in seven starts this year.

Runner-up Drank Like Hank was the first of six qualifiers by leading sire Crm Livewire. The 2-year-old gelding, racing for owner-breeder De Rae Racing LLC, recorded the second fastest clocking of :17.823 seconds, an 81 speed index . Matt Whitekiller saddled.

A futurity finalist at Remington Park earlier this year, Drank Like Hank is a winner in six starts and has earning of $14.128.  Out of the First Smart Money mare Irish Vendetta, the bay gelding was ridden by Salvador Martinez.
