CLAREMORE, OK–NOVEMBER 19, 2023–Heza Relentless Mess showed speed early then held on to defeat Coronados Fate by a neck in the $290,000 Black Gold Futurity Championship Sunday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs. Fastest qualifier Midnight Politics finished 1-1/2 lengths back in third.

Trainer Kash Reed saddled Heza Relentless Mess to his first win in seven starts for owner-breeders Reed Land and Cattle Co. LLC. Champion jockey James Flores guided the Hes Relentless gelding over the 400 yards in :19.660 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index with a 17 mph tailwind.

Out of the Louisiana Senator mare I No Shes A Hot Mess, Heza Relentless Mess earned $116,379 for the effort to bring his total earnings mark to $122,651.

Runner-up Coronados Fate earned $49,461 for finishing second under jockey Jimmy Brooks. Eddie D. Willis conditions the Coronado Cartel colt for owner-breeder Reliance Ranches LLC. Bred from the Mr Jess Perry mare Fate Cant Weight, Coronados Fate was also a finalist in the Heritage Place Juvenile last June. He has earned $72,757 in seven starts.

Grade 1-placed and multiple grade 1 finalist Midnight Politics earned $32,004 for finishing third. Trainer Jason Olmstead saddled the Rainbow QH Futurity(G1) finalist and third-place Heritage Place Futurity(G1) finisher for owner-breeder Brenda Reiswig. Edwin Escobedo rode the bay gelding out of Midnight Sunlight by Ivory James. He has banked $260,646 this season.

Heza Relentless Man returned $21.60 to win, $11.20 to placed and $5.80 to show. Coronados Fate paid $7.40 to place and $3,20 to show while Midnight Politics returned $2.40 to show.

Kg See If I Care, Docs Dusty Dash, Bv Trust In You, Pyc Legacy, Cowboys R Myheros, The Little Drummerboy and Mystic Paint completed the field.
