SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 6, 2024—La Princess Peach, under jockey Luis Flores-Garcia, got up at the wire to defeat Macho Daddys Girl by a neck in the $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Saturday afternoon at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.

Trainer Eric Valenzuela saddled the winning daughter of leading third-crop sire Eye Am King for owner Maricela Vasquez. La Princess Peach picked her first career win after finishing second in the March 16 New Mexico Spring Futurity trials. She clocked :15.125 with a 30 mph tailwind, equaling a 99 speed index.

A $15,000 Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Sale graduate, La Princess Peach sold under the name Golly Me from the consignment of breeder MJ Farms. Out of the Gol mare Golly Zee, the $23,500 winner's purse boosted La Princess Peach's bankroll total to $25,680.

Runner-up Macho Daddys Girl became the first-black type foal of first-crop sire Kj Mucho Macho Man with her second-place effort. Adrian Ramos had the riding call aboard the filly for owner/breeder Ezra Elton Lee and trainer Wes Giles. Bred from the Bid Daddy Cartel mare Big Daddys Winner, Macho Daddys Girl earned $9,000 for her effort.

La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC's Suspicious Runner finished another back in the blanket-finish to pick up $5,500 for third. Trainer Xavier Rodriguez named jockey Luis Martinez to ride the New Mexico home-bred son of first-crop sire Suspicious Interest out of Significant Runner by Foose. A trial winner in his first start, Suspicious Runner has earned $12,040 in two starts.

Heart Breakn Blondie, Hs Danger Weapon, Kings Majic, Merrmaid, Eye The King, Jess Your Honor and Jm The Gambler completed the field.
