Miss Hi Tide Battles Out of Gate to Win Mountain Top Derby at Ruidoso Downs

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–JUNE 15, 2024–Miss Hi Tide and jockey Adrian Ramos overcame a rough beginning to win the $175,258 Mountain Top Derby for three-year-old New Mexico-bred quarter horses today at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.

"I did my best to keep my filly calm and steady," Ramos said in the winner’s circle. "The filly did a nice job overcoming the early trouble and then she really got going down the race track."

Miss Hi Tide topped Wood Be Bad and champion jockey James Flores by one-length in a time of 17.667 seconds for 350-yards. The filly paid $21.80, $8.20 and $6.00 for a second career win for owner Ezra Lee and trainer Wes Giles.

"We’re going to point the filly toward the All American Oaks," said Giles. Miss Hi Tide is sired by Woodbridge out of the mare Ms Riptide by Ocean Runaway.

Runner-up Wood Be Bad, also by Woodbridge, races for owner Rancho El 48 LLC and is trained by James J. Gonzales III. A gelding out of Start Somethin Bad by Pappasito, Wood Be Had earned $35,052 for the effort.

A neck back, Young Emperor earned $17,525 for third. Umberto Belloc trains the son of Eye Am King for owner Martin Ybarra. Out of the Rushago mare Ima China Rush, Young Emperor had earned $141,477 in 12 career starts.
