Must Be Magic Slight Surprise In Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity, Kgs Wish Wins April La Fountain

BELCOURT, ND—JUNE 15, 2024—Must Be Magic scored her first career win on Saturday with a one-length effort over Dcr Jess Rip in the $11,500 Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity (not black type) at Chippewa Downs.

Ridden by jockey Ryan Morin, Must Be Magic completed the 300 yards in 16.517 seconds for the game win. Trainer Jeff Charbonneau saddled the daughter of Six Figure Sixes to her first win in five starts for owner Denise Groce.

Michael Groce bred the gray filly in North Dakota from the Sixes Liaison mare Volcoms Royal Dash. She earned $5,750 for the effort.

Runner-up Dcr Jess Rip picked up $2,875 for finishing second. Francisco Estrada trains the North Dakota homebred for owner-breeder Amanda Haar. Dcr Jess Rip is by Mr. Special Colors from the Jesscuzican mare Jess Cuz QTPI Can. Dakota Wood was riding.

Haar and Estrada teamed again to get third with stablemate Dcr Beth Doubtfire.  Nathan Haar rode the Corona B filly out of Madam Doubtfire by Its Royal Time. The homebred earned $1,380.

Her Choice Is Cash, and Mstar, The Last Vinni, completed the field.

April La Fountain Memorial Stakes

Kgs Wish was a neck winner over Whipperwilltripp in the $6,000 April La Fountain Memorial Stakes (not black type) Saturday.

Jockey Dakota Wood had the riding call aboard Kgs Wish for owner Betty Charbonneau and trainer Jeff Charbonneau. The 4-year-old daughter of Daimon's Tale (TB) completed the 550 yards in 28.984 seconds into a 5 mph crosswind.

Kenneth Groce bred Kgs Wish from the Special Eliminator mare Treasured Penny. He She has earned $21,370 from five wins in 14 starts.
