VINTON, LA–JUNE 15, 2024–The filly Blue Eyed Jane ($2.10) won the second of six qualifying trials for this year’s $303,490 Firecracker Futurity (G2) on Saturday night and, in the process, set the fastest time for the July 6 final.

Jockey Jorge Javier Garcia rode Blue Eyed Jane for trainer Juan Diaz, Jr. and owner David L. Martinez.

After breaking her maiden in the Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge on May 10, Blue Eyed Jane broke from the inside post position on Saturday and quickly built a lead throughout the 350-yard test for 2-year-old open-breds.

At the finish line she was 2-1/4 lengths better than the runner-up Seis No More. Blue Eyed Jane’s time in the trial was 17.590, which earned her a speed index of 93.

Blue Eyed Jane has now won two of her four career starts. She put another $3,000 into her bankroll on Saturday and now has a total of $53,096 to her credit. She can bank another $151,745 if she takes the Firecracker final, which will take place on Saturday, July 6.

Bred in Texas by Valerie Moya, Blue Eyed Jane is a brown filly by second-crop sire Tarzanito, out of the Jess Louisiana Blue mare Blue Eyed Fance. She was purchased for $16,500 as a yearling at the 2023 Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale. Blue Eye Jane is from the AQHA Supreme Race Horse This Snow Is Cold.

In addition to their win with Blue Eye Jane, Garcia and Diaz enjoyed two other trips to the winner’s circle on the program Saturday.

They also scored with Firecracker Futurity qualifiers Tempting Grace, by Tempting Dash, who won the sixth trial, and Reletless Politics by first-crop sire Chilitos, who took the fourth trial.

On Friday night, Diaz also qualified three horses for this year’s $145,205 Firecracker Derby (G3) at Delta Downs.
