Shiny Nova Best In Bob Giltner Overnight Derby

JEROME, ID–JUNE 16, 2024–Grade 3 Bitterroot Futurity winner Shiny Nova was a three-quarter length winner in the $4,000 Bob Giltner Overnight Derby (not back type) on Sunday at the Jerome County Fair.

Jockey Oscar Villa piloted Shiny Nova over 350 yards in 17.740 seconds, equaling a 99-speed index into a 10 mph crosswind. It was the fourth career win for the son of multiple stakes sire Racy Casanova.

Ramiro Fregoso trains the Idaho homebred for owner-breeder J.P. Sample. Bred from the First To Shine mare Alltheshine, Shiny Nova has earned $55,669 in eight career starts.

Bw Just A Ruger put in a steady effort under jockey Jesus Flores to earn $1,000 for finishing second. Glen T. Jamison conditions the daughter of multiple stakes sire Justified for owner Marie Baltodano. Bred in Idaho by Thomas Boyd and Betty Weeks, from the Ettaduino mare Bw Robins Lark, Bw Just A Ruger has won there of eight career starts.

Agapo Martinez' Mz Paquita finished half-a-length back to earn $600 for third. Eric Ayala had the riding call for trainer Alejandro Tellez. Randy and Linda Schalla bred the El Damazo filly in Idaho from the Rock Solid Jess mare Asian Dawn.

La Choroscada, Daguerre Party, and Haulin Oatz completed the field.
