Cr Freighttrain Breaks Maiden Clocking Fastest Qualifying Time To The $115,000 Hawkeye Futurity

ALTOONA, IA–JUNE 16, 2024–15 two-year-old Iowa-bred hopefuls vied for a spot from two 330-yard trials to the $82,300 Hawkeye Futurity at Prairie Meadows on Sunday afternoon.

From trial #1, Cr Freighttrain breaks his maiden and sets the time to beat in :17.209 seconds, clocking an 80 speed index against a ten mph headwind. With jockey Ramiro Garcia in the irons, the son of Freighttrain B broke sixth from the gates but drove clear for the wire, defeating Ajs Favorite Ia by 1 1/4-lengths. The winning effort paid $3.40 on 1/2 odds.

Trained by Jason Olmstead, Cr Freighttain's first career out was in a maiden at Remington Park earlier this season, where he placed third. The bay gelding has earned $11,009 from his first two starts for owners/breeders Richard and Curt Tobin. He is out of Lw Evening Lajolla by Streakin Lajolla.

Second fastest qualifier Prize Flyer won trial #2 in :17.313 seconds against a ten mph headwind. She defeated Mitey High, ridden by Alfredo Triana Jr by 1 1/2-lengths and the post-time favorite's first place finish paid $3.00 to win on 1-2 odds.

This is the first career start for the daughter of Flying Cowboy 123, who earned an $8,874 paycheck for the effort. Trainer Alex Wessels saddled jockey Miguel Ramirez aboard Prize Flyter for owner LXXI Racing Stables. Craig Kirby bred the sorrel filly out of Fast Prize Tacita by Tac It Like A Man.
