BELCOURT, ND–JUNE 16, 2024–Last year's Chippewa Downs Futurity runner-up, Lil Rider, wins the $12,100 Chippewa Downs Open Quarter Horse Derby (not black type) in record-setting time on Sunday over post-time favorite Windys Sweet Favorit.

Jockey Ricardo Martinez got the leg up on Lil Rider for a neck victory in :16.035 seconds. The daughter of Pyc Fun N Fancy clocked a 152 speed index against a 26 mph crosswind beating the 350-yard track record set by Crown Royal Time in 2012.

According to the Equibase chart, Lil Rider's time also beat the world record set by Strike It Quick in 2010. The AQHA must verify all race times before officially recording them.

The slight upset paid $11.80 to win on 5/1 odds, and the $6,050 winner's portion boosted Lil Rider's earnings to $29,327. The three-time winner out of Park Avenue Air by Dashair is bred, owned, and trained by Ronald Addicot.

Francisco Estrada saddled jockey Dakota Wood aboard Windys Sweet Favorit for her second-place finish by 2 1/2-lengths over Bodacious Trickster. The daughter of Go To The Gravel has lit the board seven of nine starts with three career wins and $26,026 in the bank.

She won last year's Chippewa Downs Futurity in her first career start. Windys Sweet Favorit has placed third in the Dan Lockie Derby and Dash For Cash Open Stakes this year.

Michelle Meiwes bred Windys Sweet Favorit in Iowa out of the Dashin Bye mare Windys Dashin Bye. She is owned by Amanda Haar and Abelardo Quintero.

Kannet Gutierrez rode third-place finisher Bodacious Trickster. The two-time winner has earned $7,519 for his owner, Dennis Shipman. Bobby Simmons bred the Blane Decoteau-trained gelding in North Dakota out of Tricks On The Side by Favorite Trick.

Reids Rocket, Osheas Corona, Victoria Maria and Dcr C Nor Doubtfire round out the order of finish.
