Stakes Veteran Double Cruise Gets The Upset In The Century Mile Sprint Stakes

EDMONTON, ALB–JUNE 29, 2024–The $15,587 (US) Century Mile Sprint Stakes results on Saturday came down to a tight photo for the win between Double Cruise and Krash On Okey. It was Double Cruise who got the nod with Martin Ortiz aboard for the finish.

The short 110-yard victory by Double Cruise was clocked in :7.024 seconds for a 89 speed index. The longshot's first-place upset paid $19.10 on 8/1 odds.

Double Cruise has lit the board 25 of 30 starts with 11 career wins, and the $8,214 winner's share of the purse increased his lifetime earnings to $119,135. This is the seven-year-old's eighth career stakes victory, including the Alberta Bred Maturity Stakes (twice), Alberta Stallion Stakes Maturity (twice), Canada Cup Derby, Alberta Bred Derby, and Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity.

Tom Kenway bred, owns and trains the Alberta homebred out of Eye Cruise by Eye Take Time. Kenway also owns Double Cruise's sire Bd Cruiser.

Jesus Medina piloted Krash On Okey to the wire but just missed by barely a nose for second. The son of Krash Cartel's race record is 4-5-5 from 17 starts, and he has earned $44,531 for his owner, Agatha Fehr.

Isaak Fehr bred Krash On Okey in Mexico out of Stayin On Okey by Okey Dokey Dale. Misael Moreno conditioned the four-year-old gelding.

Wave Burner, ridden by Daniel Garcia, placed third. The five-year-old Alberta-bred gelding is a Canada Cup Futurity Grade 3 winner with $61,501 in the bank.

Breeder and trainer Wesley Oulton saddled Wave Burner for owner Jeffrey Rath. The son of Wave Carver is out of First Prize Sass by First Timber.

Agostina placed fourth, Jamez Bond was fifth and post-time favorite Flight Club was sixth.
