Pappas Fame (#7), ridden by Tyson Lusk, wins the $80,350 KC Carden Accredited Wyoming Bred Derby on Sunday at Wyoming Downs

EVANSTON, WY–JUNE 30, 2024–The $80,350 KC Carden Accredited Wyoming Bred Derby came down to a photo finish at the wire between Pappas Fame and Wanna See My Quickie Sunday afternoon at Wyoming Downs. Heavy favorite Pappas Fame won the nod by a nose, leaving Wanna See My Quickie to place.

Cesar Moreno was aboard Pappas Fame in the trials, where he clocked the second-fastest qualifying time, but Tyson Lusk got the leg up in the finals. He piloted him to victory in :17.501 seconds with a 15 mph cross wind, clocking a 96 speed index.

The $36,961 winner's share of the purse boosted Pappas Fame's lifetime earnings to over $210,000, and the 350-yard victory on 4/5 odds paid betting spectators $3.60 to win.

Pappas Fame is no stranger to the winner's circle. The KC Carden Derby is the third straight victory this season and the ninth overall from 12 starts. His top wins include last year's Wyoming Downs Futurity and Powder River Wyoming Bred Futurity.

Kylie Valenzuela saddled the sorrel gelding for owners Andrea and Eddie Jensen. Ron and Laurie Moosman, who bred Pappas Fame out of Makn Fame by Maknmoves, also bred runner-up Wanna See My Quickie, whose dam is Separate Moves by Maknmoves.

Wanna See My Quickie was ridden by Vera Gerardo. The two-time winner has earned $31,260 for his owners, Tyson and Stephanie Morgan. Dalton Hansen trains the son of Pappasito.

Jets Eyes, the fastest qualifier from the trials, placed third under Cristian Aguirre's guidance. Kylie Valenzuela owns and trains the son of Ec Jet One.

Jets Eyes has lit the board five of six starts with two wins and $40,192 in the bank. Maria Valenzuela bred the sorrel gelding out of Hawkinson Eyes by Hawkinson.

Kawlidga, D And D Dynasty, Rr Lets Go Brandon, Tiny Capitan, Ud Cholula and Er Hawk The Pappa round out the order of finish. Ivorybudsnblossoms was scratched.
