RUIDOSO, NM–JULY 28, 2024–Ricky Ramirez pilots Ocean Bridge to his first stakes victory in the $50,000 Zia Quarter Horse Juvenile at the Downs at Albuquerque on Sunday.
Ocean Bridge broke sharply from the gates and led the field of ten by the first call. The son of Woodbridge gained momentum down the 400-yard track, winning by 1/2-length in 19.696 seconds, clocking an 87-speed index. The post-time favorite's winning effort paid $6.40 on 2-1 odds.
Bigg Al, ridden by Christian Ramos, won the nod for second over Two Macho For You and Noe Garcia Jr, who placed third, in a photo finish at the wire.
Trained by Trey Wood, Ocean Bridge has two wins from six starts and a fourth-place finish in last month's Mountain Top Juvenile Stakes. The $21,000 winner's share of the purse boosts the son of Woodbridge's earnings to $37,322.
Ocean Bridge topped the Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Sale chart last year, selling for $260,000. Paragon Farms, his owner, signed the ticket for the sorrel gelding out of Ms Riptide by Runaway Winner. The MJ Farms-bred is a full brother to Zia Futurity [RG1] winner and All American Futurity [G1] runner-up Mister Riptide
David Gomez Barraza saddled runner-up Bigg Al for owner Rancho La Aventura LLC. The son of Eye Am King has yet to break his maiden with earnings of $11,738 from five starts. MJ Farms also bred Bigg Al out of Bigg Alice by Big Daddy Cartel.
Ezra Lee owns and bred third-place finisher Two Macho For You out of the Wagon Tales mare Tiramisu For Two. The Wesley Giles-trained gelding, sired by Kj Mucho Macho Man, has earned $8,590.
Lyme Light, Cue Daddy, Bot Scoots, Bout Damn Time, Ms Jessie Mason, W R Cactus Candy, and Corona For Jess complete the field.
