Vesper Martini Posts Top Qualifying Time In Pot O' Gold Futurity Trials at Will Rogers Monday

CLAREMORE, OK–SEPTEMBER 16, 2024–Vesper Martini turned the tables on Cowboy On The Fly to set the fastest qualifying time for the $72,000 Pot O'Gold Futurity(G1) for Paints and Appaloosa juveniles today at Will Rogers Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Eastern Oklahoma racetrack on Monday, September 30, to vie for the winner's share of a $72,000 purse to be run at 350 yards.

The last time Cowboy On The Fly faced Vesper Martini, he upset the $78,529 Speedhorse Graham P&A Futurity [G1] at Fair Meadows for the victory.

Today, Vesper Martini dominated under jockey Roman Cruz, winning by one length in the fastest clocking of 17.638 seconds, a 93-speed index with a 9 mph tailwind.

Four-time winner Vesper Martini was second in the Speedhorse Graham and fifth in the Oklahoma P&A Futurity at Remington. The $11,000 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale graduate has won $71,797 for owner 918 Bloodstock.

Dee Keener conditions the Painted Turnpike filly from the Red Storm Cat mare Martinis N Bikinis.  J. Garvan Kelly and J. Lloyd Yother are the breeders.

Cowboy On The Fly held on for the second fastest, clocking 17.785 seconds. Kasey Willis conditions the son of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 for owner-breeder Russell Trull. Gonzalo Gutierrez had the ring call.

Bred in Oklahoma from the Lota Pyc mare I Like It Alota, Cowboy On The Fly is a three-time winner of nearly $60,000.
