GRANTS PASS, OR–OCTOBER 14, 2024–Bnb Hasta La Luna dug in at 10-1 odds under jockey Jose Espinoza to get the nod over Jr in the $43,000 Autumn Derby at Grants Pass Downs on Monday afternoon.
Bouncing off a third-place effort in the September 30 trials, Bnb Hasta La Luna got a nose win while completing the 400 yards in 19.604 seconds, a 102-speed index.
Trainer Ricardo Castillo conditions the son of champion Moonin The Eagle for owner Rainee Browning. AQHA Racing Champion breeder Bobby D. Cox bred the five-time winner in Utah from the Brimmerton mare Hasta La Veesta.
He has compiled a (17) 6-3-2 record. The $17,200 winner's purse boosted Bnb Hasta La Luna's earnings to $43,915.
Bnb Hasta La Luna returned $21.80 to win, $4 to place, and $3.20 to show.
Runner-up Jr broke out under jockey Jake Samuels but surged late to earn $7,310 for second. Freddy Ibarra trains the Bp Wagon Train gelding for owner Juan Cabrera Rodriguez. Jose Juan Baca bred the black 3-year-old in Washington from Chicks Wildcat by Returning (TB). Jr has earned $34,669 in 16 career starts.
Rtm My Turn finished three-quarters back to earn $4,730 for third. Trainer Mark Hanson tapped jockey Jose Figueroa to ride the RTM Stables LLC-owned son of four-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty. Susan Hanson bred the gray gelding in Idaho from the Chickie Cherry Cola mare Rtm Say Your Prayers. He has earned $17,759.
Knocking It Off, Nowhere Too Run, Da Bros Cartel, Dr B, Ez Cowboy Game, and Makin Chicks Move completed the field.
