SHELBYVILLE, IN–OCTOBER 26, 2024–It was a photo finish mash-up at the wire on Saturday in the first Quarter Horse race of six for Champions Day at Horseshoe Indianapolis. It came down to Dna Dales Winner, who won the nod over post-time favorite Apollitical Mission, earning her first stakes victory in the $30,000 Miss Roxie Little Consolation (not black type).
Trainer Natasha Perez named Juan Marquez to ride Dna Dales Winner for owner-breeder Noel Alexander of DNA Quarter Horses, LLC. The daughter of the top 10 leading first-year sire Eos A Political Win clocked an 82-speed index in 18.100 seconds. The slight upset paid $12.80 to win on 9/1 odds.
Former Horseshoe Indianapolis leading rider Juan Marquez said, "She rode very well today. Natasha and her team are very good to work with, and I am grateful for the opportunity to ride in place of her regular rider, Diego Villamil, who was injured. I hope he recuperates very soon."
Ridden by Rolando Pina, Apollitical Mission rolled in with a late thrust at the wire but just missed by a neck for second. My Royal Sin, piloted by Francisco Quintero, followed by a head for third.
Dna Dales Winner improved her record to three wins from seven starts, and the $16,500 payday boosted her earnings to $47,315. The sorrel filly's best stakes performance before today was a fourth-place finish in the Gordon Mobley Futurity.
This victory is a great accomplishment for Dna Dales Winner. Noel Alexander said, "She was off for a couple of races and didn't run up to snuff, but I knew in the paddock today she was going to be tough."
Noel continued, "Natasha has really taken care of my horses. They look good, they feel good, and they run good."
Dna Dales Winner was bred in Indiana out of the Okey Dokey Dale mare Chrystal Dale.
Trainer Tim Eggleston saddled runner-up Apollitical Mission for owner Phillip Harrison. The son of The Transmission has a record of 2-3-1 from seven starts and $60,567 in the bank. His top performances include victory in the Leader Of The Class Sale Futurity and a fifth-place finish in the Gordon Mobley Futurity. Walter "Dick" Harrison bred the brown gelding out of Apollitical Deb by Apollitical Jess.
Third-place finisher My Royal Sin is bred and owned by Brian Gunder. The winning son of My Royal Wagon has $14,100 in the bank from four starts. Tony Cunningham conditions the bay gelding out of Euro Blazin by Euroears (TB).
Legendary Knight, Macho Chick, Beach Martini, Wildcat Lover, You Drive Baby, Gv Black Panther, and Zoomin Feature complete the order of finish.
