SHELBYVILLE, IN–OCTOBER 26, 2024– WRs Mynameisrip was so impressive in the trials as the fastest qualifier he garnered the position as the favorite in the 16th running of the $235,600 Miss Roxie Little Futurity [RG3] Saturday at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
The freshman lived up to the billing as Track Announcer John G. Dooley said, "rip-roaring his way home," with Juan Marquez aboard for the win, giving himself and trainer Natasha Perez their first Graded Stakes victory.
Starting from post 10, when the gates opened, WRs Mynameisrip made an impact. He powered his way out of the gate and was in contention early with Tw Trumps Secrets and Erik Esqueda, who held position along the inside.
As the race progressed through the 350-yard dash, WRs Mynameisrip found another gear and exploded by his opponents, cruising under the wire as a half-length winner under wraps for Marquez. Escondido Gold and Alonso Rivera finished second, with TW Trumps Secrets holding ground inside for third.
WRs Mynameisrip paid $6.00 for the win. The Tarzanito black gelding is owned by Gwen and Randy Williams’ Williams Racing. Natasha Perez made her third start since acquiring the horse and is now three for three with the big homebred from Williams’ farm in LaCenter, Ky.
"I don’t even know what to think; I think I’m still in shock," said an emotional Perez. "This horse has so much talent and I knew he had the talent, but to actually see him win is amazing. And he’s just getting started. His future is so bright. It’s going to be a fun ride. I wouldn’t be here without this amazing team, including my husband (Saul Perez), Diego (Villamil Bocanegra), and the other jockeys (including Marquez). We are a family."
Diego Bocanegra Villamil rode WRs Mynameisrip to victory in his first two starts for Perez, including his trial win. However, he was injured later that day in a paddock incident that has placed him on crutches as he heals from a foot injury. Juan Marquez stepped in seamlessly for the win aboard the impressive freshman, who is from one of Williams’ foundation bloodlines.
"He’s quite the racehorse now," said Randy Williams. "He is from the same family as (WRs) Valentino, and we probably saw his last race earlier today. We are going to retire him. And, earlier this year, we had to put his dam down (WRs Kissandteller). But this horse seems to be the new Valentino. He came out of the gate like a bullet. We’ve been close to winning these big races here in the past but never won one of these. We’ve won a lot of money in these races, but the friendships we are creating are more important to Gwen and me. Everybody’s so proud of this horse. It makes it special."
WRs Valentino competed in the Indiana Championship earlier in the card. He's now retired with 30 starts and 15 wins, and earnings of more than $550,000 for the Williams.
"We will take him home and let him live his life out at our farm," added Gwen. "He will be loved and taken care of every single day."
As for the future of WRs Mynameisrip, Randy added, "Valentino was quite the rascal when he was a two-year-old, but so is this horse. Get ready because we will bring him back next year."
Runner-up Escondido Gold has four wins and $90,581 in earnings from seven starts for owner BFD Farms. The son of Escondido Beach was a finalist in the QHRAI SSA Futurity [G3] and Gordon Mobley Futurity.
Tw Trumps Secret has a record of 1-2-1 from five starts with $42,154 in earnings for owner Thomas Wylie. The son of Mr Apollitical Dash was a finalist in the Jaguar Rocket Futurity.
Natasha Perez also trained the second and third-place horses, who were both bred by Thomas Wylie in Indiana. Escondido Gold is out of Marthas Jess Gold by Gold Medal Jess, and Tw Trumps Secret is from the Mr Eye Opener mare Eyes So Blue.
Beach First, Jess A Beach Man, Ap Political Patriot, Dna Politicalfighter, Hf Just Reno and Paradise Beach round out the order of finish.
The Miss Roxie Little Futurity was sporting the largest purse in the 16-year history of the race. It joins the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Futurity held earlier this year as the first two Restricted Grade 3 races held for Indiana horses at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
