Mr May Scores His First Stakes Victory in the $40,000 Lobo Derby

ALBUQUERQUE, NM–OCTOBER 26, 2024–With a clean break from the gates, Mr May edged ahead with a wire-to-wire victory in the $40,000 Lobo Derby at the Downs at Albuquerque on Saturday. The win paid $12.20 for the slight upset on 5/1 odds.

Trainer Jason Olmstead named Ramiro Garcia to ride Mr May in the 400-yard Derby. The duo clocked a 93-speed index in 19.434 seconds, winning by a length over Favorite Gloryshiner and rider Christian Cardenas. Dads Racy Te and Adrian Ramos made a steady bid for third.

Breeders J and SM, Inc. own Mr May in partnership with Ben and Christine Hudson. The son of One Famous Eagle has four career wins from 11 starts, and tonight's $23,200 payday boosted his earnings to $52,673. The sorrel gelding placed fourth in last year's Ruidoso Juvenile Stakes and was a finalist in the Will Rogers Derby Challenge last month.

Mr May was bred from the Valiant Hero mare Rustys Miracle in Texas.

Trained by James J. Gonzalez, III, runner-up Favorite Gloryshiner has one win from seven starts and $28,755 in earnings. The Johnny Trotter homebred gelding is sired by Favorite Cartel and out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Eye Of Glory.

Trainer Mark Brown bred Dads Racy Te in partnership with his wife Peggy. The son of Big Daddy Cartel has a record of 1-3-4 from 12 starts with $66,030 in the bank. Kimberly Skaggs owns the New Mexico-bred Grade 1 finalist out of Jessa Techick by Mr. Jess Perry.

Cardiac, Iam Outta Here, Ef Facile Dynasty, Vodka From Texas, Bella Lady, and Wicked Ram complete the field.
