Peppa Scores Her First Stakes Victory in the $40,000 Albuquerque Juvenile Stakes

ALBUQUERQUE, NM–OCTOBER 26, 2024–Peppa broke her maiden in her first out this season but hasn't been able to do it again until tonight. The streak is over; Peppa won the $40,000 Albuquerque Juvenile Stakes by a neck on Saturday at the Downs at Albuquerque.

Peppa now has two wins from six starts, and the $24,000 winner's payday improved her bankroll to $35,848.

Piloted by Christian Cardenas, Peppa took the lead from first call and kept it to the wire. She defeated post-time favorite Condigo and Adrian Ramos by a neck at the wire, clocking a 104-speed index in 17.094 seconds. Jd Heza Paintedeagle, ridden by Manuel Gutierrez, was 1 1/4-lengths behind the top two for third.

Peppas 350-yard victory paid $6.40 to win on 2/1 odds. Condigo paid $2.80 to place, and Jd Heza Paintedeagle paid $2.40 to show.

Terraza Family bred and owns Peppa in Texas. The brown filly trained by J.J. Gonzalez, Jr. was a finalist in the G.C.F.A. Overnight Juvenile Stakes in her last out and the Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge Stakes [G3] in May. Peppa is the daughter of leading freshman sire Chilitos and out of Newport Lilysdelight by Tres Seis.

Wes Giles saddled runner-up Condigo for owner-breeder MJ Farms of New Mexico. The son of Valiant Hero broke his maiden in his first out. He won his second out in the Ruidoso Downs Juvenile Challenge Stakes [G3] trials but placed eighth in the finals. The bay colt out of Astica by Jesse James Jr has two wins from four starts and $26,536 in the bank.

Jd Heza Paintedeagle has lit the board six of nine starts with one win and $27,497 in earnings for owner Elite Quarter Horses. The son of One Famous Eagle placed fourth in the Big Easy Futurity. Bred in Oklahoma by Jd IV Farms, LLC, he is out of Jess A Painted Wagon by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
