LOS ALAMITOS, CA–OCTOBER 26, 2024–After dominating the trials to the $77,800 Wild West Futurity, J Lazy Six Racing’s Heartlande was just too good in the final, winning the 350-yard final from the outside post nine on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.
Heartlande, who was third in the John Deere California Juvenile final earlier this year, earned her first career stakes win thanks to a strong finish in the Wild West final.
Ridden by Henry Reynoso Lopez for trainer Kristen Watanabe, Heartlande trailed early on before hitting her top gear at the midway point and then pulling away to score a ¾ length win in a time of :17.87.
The daughter of Favorite Cartel out of Jess A Sweetie showed what she could do in the trials, romping to a 3 ¼ length win while recording the fastest qualifying time. She has now raced at Los Alamitos five times and has won twice and finished in the money in all five of her local outings.
She earned $32,676 for the win to take her career earnings to $49,925. Bred in Texas by Bobby Cox, Heartlande was eligible for the Wild West after racing at Turf Paradise at the start of her freshman campaign.
Owned by Gary and Jeralyn Messenger, Go Tell Carter broke alongside Hearlande and challenged the whole way while running second. The filly by first-crop sire Tell Cartel earned $13,326 for her strong effort.
It was all about girl power in the Wild West, as Ralph and Carolyn Fales’ homebred filly Say Somthing completed the trifecta. The Arizona bred daughter of Tell Cartel earned $9,336 for running third.
Notin Missing Here finished fourth and was followed by Goodbye Time, M E Closing Time, Remembered Well, Ruff An Rowdy, and Prize Winning Chick completed the field.
