Fun N Fire Romps In OQHRA Mystery Derby at Will Rogers Downs Monday

CLAREMORE, OK–OCTOBER 28, 2024–Fun N Fire romped to a two-length win while setting the fastest qualifying time for the $87,304 OQHRA Mystery Derby at Will Rogers Downs on Monday afternoon.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from four trial races contested today will return to the Northeastern Oklahoma raceway on Tuesday, November 12, to vie for the $35,421 winner's purse.

Fun N Fire was a convincing winner in trial 3 under jockey Juan Pulido. The stakes-winning son of multiple stakes sire Fun N Fancy Pyc completed the 350 yards in 17.586 seconds, a 95-speed index into a 30 mph crosswind.

Trainer Jose Gamez saddled the bay gelding to his sixth career win in eight starts for owner Mayela Valdez. Rito Sosa bred Fun N Fire in Oklahoma from the Walk Thru Fire mare Dolls In Fire.

Winner of the Speedhorse Derby and a finalist in the Oklahoma Futurity (G2), Fire N Fancy has earned $73,210.

Coming off a win in the Altoona Derby in his last start, Cardiac Cowboy extended his win streak to three after an impressive 2-1/4 length victory in the opening trial. Jockey Ramiro Garcia rode the son of leading second-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 to the second-fastest clocking of 17.701, a 92-speed index into a 30 mph crosswind.

Jason Olmstead trains the graded stakes winner for owner-breeder Jo Rice. Bred from the Carters Cartel mare Southard Cartel, Cardiac Cowboy has earned $304,013. Last season, he won the Valley Junction Futurity(G2) and was a Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity finalist.
