Eye Im Flashn Speeds To The Wire Of The New Mexico Classic Futurity Trials Clocking The Fastest Time

HOBBS, NM–NOVEMBER 2, 2024– Seven trials were held on Saturday for New Mexico-bred two-year-olds competing for a spot in the finals of the estimated $350,000 New Mexico Classic Futurity [RG2] at Zia Park. Eye Im Flashin, who recorded the fastest qualifying time in the first trial of the day, will return for the finals on November 24.

Although Eye Im Flashin bumped into Bigg Al at the start, the sorrel gelding led the field from gate-to-wire. The sorrel gelding ridden by Luis Flores-Garcia clocked a 107 speed index in 17.096 seconds, only 3/1000ths of a second off of the record time of 17.093 set by Lethal Delight in 2010.

Against a 15 mph crosswind, Eye Im Flashin defeated Two Macho For You by 1 1/4-lengths at the wire. The 350-yard race paid $9.00 on 7/2 odds, and the $7,200 earnings increased his lifetime total to surpass the six-figure mark at $100,724.

Eye Im Flashin has three wins from eight starts and placed second in the Mountain Top Futurity [G2] in June. Tony Sedillo trains the son of leading third-year-sire Eye Am King.

Paul Cervantes bred Eye Im Flashin out of the First Moonflash mare Startedwithawhisper. She is owned by Tungsten Racing Partnership who also owns the second fastest qualifier, Bv Bridgette Cartel.

Flores-Garcia also piloted the second-fastest qualifier, Bv Bridgette Cartel, to victory in the second trial of the day. The duo followed suit with a bumped start and wire-to-wire 3/4-length victory over Jm Ferrari Lane. The post-time favorite clocked a 104-speed index in 17.193 seconds, which paid $4.40 on 3/2 odds.

Bv Bridgette Cartel has lit the board four of six starts with earnings of $88,614. She is coming off a troubled fifth from her last start in the New Mexico State Fair Futurity [G2] and placed fourth in the New Mexican Spring Futurity [G2] earlier in the season.

Trainer Ramon Mendoza saddled the daughter of Big Daddy Cartel. MJ Farms bred her out of the Blushing Bug mare Bridgette Bordeaux.

The second ten fastest qualifiers from the New Mexico Classic Futurity [RG2] are preferred invites to the New Mexico Classic Juvenile. Why Not Me 2 clocked the fastest time to the Juvenile from the last trial of the evening.

Why Not Me 2, ridden by Luis Martinez, placed second to Woody Rocks clocking the time to beat for the Juvenile in 17.363 seconds and a 98 speed index. The track had turned sloppy in the second to last trial of the evening.

Jorge Luis Sanchez, Jr conditions Why Not Me 2 for owners El Paraiso Racing Stables, LLC. The winning son of Eye Am King has $12,238 in the bank.

Benny and Donna Smith bred the $22,000 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Yearling Sale graduate. He is out of Maggies Miracle Lx by Dean Miracle.
