The Grand Legend Returns To Win Column With Easy Victory in $50,000 Let' Er Rip Lip Chip Stakes

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–NOVEMBER 2, 2024–Bouncing off a third-place finish in the Grade 2 Lip Chip Distance Challenge Stakes at The Downs in September, multiple stakes winner The Grand Legend took command and then drew clear to win the $50,000 Let' Er Rip Lip Chip Stakes by 2-1/4 lengths on Saturday night at Lone Star Park.

Under jockey Noe Villatoro, The Grand Legend completed the 870 yards as the post-time favorite in 45.497 seconds, equaling a 98-speed index into an 8 mph headwind. The 8-year-old son of multiple stakes sire FDD Going Grand restarted a winning streak that he ran to seven before losing at Albuquerque.

Trainer Adan Guzman conditions Texas-bred for owner James C. Whitener, LLC. Bred by Mercy Hinklin Horse Farm LLC, from the Tres Seis mare Legendary Seis, The Grand Legend has compiled a (39) 16-5-5 record and used the $29,400 Let' Er Rip Lip Chip winner's purse to bring his earnings mark to $392,580.

Runner-up Big Daddy Dan chased the leader and finished well under jockey Julio Ramirez, Jr. to earn $9,800 for second. Jon Newbold saddled the 3-year-old Texas-bred for owner-breeder Alto Colorado Racing LLC. The lightly raced son of leading sire Kiss My Hocks, from the Dayjur (TB) mare Ms Realitos (TB), was making only his fifth career start. He broke his maiden in his last start at Lone Star on September 21.

Master Reigns finished five lengths back to earn $5,390 for third. Trainer Marc Jungers tapped Luis Vivanco to ride the 5-year-old Dash Master Jess gelding for owner-breeder Richard Hawkins. Bred in Texas, from the He Will Reign mare Dancee Reigns, Master Reigns has earned $77,521.

Pevs Kiote Moon, Guns For Gold, and Gjr Vetch completed the field. First Special, Jess Rite, and Rock Ya Later were scratched.
