First Time For Wine, under jockey Ali Rivera, won the $58,500 Yellow Rose Of Texas Stakes on Saturday at Lone Star Park.

First Time For Wine Toasts Stakes Victory in $58,500 Yellow Rose Of Texas at Lone Star Park

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–NOVEMBER 2, 2024–First Time For Wine hesitated initially but closed fast under jockey Ali Rivera to win the $58,500 Yellow Rose Of Texas Stakes by three-quarters on Saturday at Lone Star Park.

The John Stinebaugh trainee scored her fifth career win in 21 starts by completing the 400 yards in 20.327 seconds into a 12 mph headwind.  The $35,685 winner's purse boosted her bankroll to $158,473.

The 4-year-old Texas-bred daughter of champion sire First Moonflash races for owner-breeder Pete Scarmardo. Out of the Mr. Jess Perry mare Time For Wine, First Time For Wine entered the race off a second-place effort in the Cox Ranch Lone Star Distaff Challenge in her last start on September 28.

Runner-up Dakota Gurl led early under jockey Raul Hernandez, Jr., but settled for second to earn $9,945. Jorge Valenzuela trains the multiple stakes-placed daughter of Muddy Watters for owner-breeder Sunset Well Service, Inc. Bred from the FDD Dynasty mare Runaway Charli, Dakota Gurl has earned $867,463.

Dash Mastter Jess Partnership's You Look Famous finished a nose back to earn $5,580 for third. Daniel Garcia trains the One Famous Eagle 5-year-old from the Jet Black Patriot mare Mi Angela. A stakes winner, bred by Cesar Rosales, You Look Famous, has banked $117,944 in 23 career starts.

Dm Bella Star, Wagons Moving First, Jess Kissing Beau, and Lipstick Promise completed the field. Crimson Cash was scratched.
