CLAREMORE, OK–NOVEMBER 10, 2024–Last year’s reigning champion, Apollitical Payoff, returned to Will Rogers Downs on Sunday to win the $26,350 OQHRA Fall Classic Stakes for the second year in a row.

Cowboys R Myheros, ridden by Armando Alvidrez, held the lead into the final stretch of the 400-yard stakes race but was caught at the wire by Apollitical Payoff, who pulled off a 3/4-length victory. Shy Kisser and rider Antonio Perez broke seventh from the gates but fought hard and finished third, just a neck behind the runner-up.

Jockey Ramiro Garcia piloted Apollitical Payoff to victory in 19.913 seconds, clocking a 94-speed index. The post-time favorites first place finish paid $4.20 to win on a $2.00 wager.

The $15,630 winner’s share of the purse boosted Apollitical Payoff’s bankroll to $350,281. The five-year-old son of leading sire Apollitical Jess has lit the board 24 of 34 starts with nine victories. He is a four-time stakes winner, including the Mighty Deck Three Stakes last year and the Black Gold Lads Futurity in 2021. He has earned black-type status in 13 different races throughout his career.
