Asscher Makes Strong Bid For Championship Honors With Texas Classic Oaks Sponsored by Purina Feeds

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–NOVEMBER 16, 2024–Grade 1 winner Asscher extended her bid yearend Championship honors on Saturday when she was victorious in the $253,502 Texas Classic Oaks sponsored by Purnia Feeds at Lone Star Park.

Starting as the second fastest qualifier from the October 25 trials, Asscher was again contrary getting in the starting gate. Once the daughter of four-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty settled under jockey Christian Ramos, she was all business getting the finish line a half ahead of stablemate Shes Snakie.

The Marc Jungers trainee completed the 400 yards in 19.769, equaling a 93 into a seven mph headwind. Asscher got her third consecutive win at Lone Star tonight after dead-heating in the Grade 2 Dash For Cash Derby on October 5.

The Lance Bland and Jimmy Barton-owned 3-year-old filly has won six of 10 starts this year, including the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Oaks Derby and a second-place effort in the Rainbow QH Oaks(G1) last summer.

Leading breeder MJ Farms bred the filly in New Mexico from the AQHA Racing Champion filly Astica by Jesse James Jr. Asscher's second dam, Alice K White by First Down Dash, is also an AQHA Racing Champion filly. The $113,254 Oaks prize boosted Asscher's total earnings to $489,674.

Shes Snakie, with a late surge under champion jockey James Flores, ran the biggest race of her life to earn $55,991 for second. Also from the Jungers stable, the daughter of leading sire Hes Relentless races for owners Bob Pitcock, Lance Bland, Douglas Traylor, and Jimmy Barton. Jerry Windham bred the earner of nearly $90,000 in Texas from the Shazoom mare Viborita.

Fastest qualifier and Grade 1 winner, Especially Goodcandy, dueled under champion jockey Ricky Ramirez to earn $27,995 for third. It was the first loss in four starts this season for S. Trey Wood, trainee, who won the All American Oaks(G1) on Labor Day at Albuquerque. Owner-breeders Mark and Fay Annett McCloy bred the Jess Good Candy filly in Oklahoma from the Dashair mare Especially Tres. Second in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1) last year, she has earned $732,284.

Flying Sophia, Deep Blue, I Got Thiss, Princess Celina, Famous Tools, Aj Gold Heart, and Native Country Chick completed the field.
