Relentless Eagle, under jockey Christian Ramos, won the $328,811 Texas Classic Derby(G1) at Lone Star Park on Saturday.

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–NOVEMBER 16, 2024–Stablemates Asscher and Relentless Eagle, who shared the victory in the Grade 2 $177,300 Dash For Cash Derby on October 5, took home the lion's share of the Texas Classic 3-year-old money on Saturday night at Lone Star Park.

About an hour after Asscher was victorious in the $254,502 Texas Classic Oaks sponsored by Purina Feeds for fillies (see related story), her stablemate Relentless Eagle was equally victorious in the $328,811 Texas Classic Derby(G1) for colts & geldings. Marc Jungers trains both.

Also ridden by Christian Ramos, Relentless Eagle got his fourth win in as many starts this season with a one-length effort over Jaegar. The son of leading sire Hes Relentless completed the 440 yards in 21.308, equaling a 98-speed index into a 7 mph headwind.

Racing for owner Lance Bland, Relentless Eagle has compiled an (11) 6-1-1 record, and the Classic Derby winner's purse valued at $146,321 pushed his earnings to $311,895.

Also a finalist in the Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1) at 2, Relentless Eagle was bred in Oklahoma by George P. Mitchell, II. He is out of Volcoms Delight by Volcom.

Guerras Racing Stables' Jaegar earned $72,339 for his second-place effort. Also second in the Sam Houston Derby(G3) earlier this year, the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess was bred in Oklahoma from the Tres Seis mare Adolph Tres Knockout. Five Puig Racing LLC bred the $203,730 earner. Luis Vivanco had the riding assignment.

La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC's New Mexico homebred Lethalcartelfavorite finished another length back to earn $36,139 for third. Trainer Xavier E. Rodriguez tapped jockey Luis Martinez to ride the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel from the Corona Cartel mare Lethal Lil. Third in the All American Juvenile at 3, Lethalcartelfavorite has earned $84,659 in 12 career starts.

Military Time, Top Cowboy, Famous Eye Glory, Shoeless, Dollar Bill, Wynnchester, and Fire Cowboy completed the field.
