PHOENIX, AZ–DECEMBER 9, 2024–Born In The Blood prevailed for a slight upset in the $22,500 AQRA Turf Paradise Open Quarter Horse Futurity Consolation (not black type) on Monday.
Ridden by Rodolfo Arvizu, Born In The Blood took the lead at first call and kept it to the wire for a head victory over Masters Hand and jockey Jacob Enriquez. The son of Apollitical Blood clocked a 90 speed index in 17.757 seconds, and the 350-yard effort paid $13.00 to win on 5-1 odds.
Kvn Negro To Blanco ran third a length behind Masters Hand but was disqualified to eighth, which moved fourth-place finisher Eagleflash Corona and her rider Emilio Tapia into third.
Born In The Blood has three wins from eight starts, and today’s victory payday boosted his earnings to $24,146. Trained by Juvencio Canales, he was a finalist in the Los Alamitos Juvenile Challenge Stakes earlier this season.
Luis Gonzalez of LG Racing bought the Oklahoma-bred gelding for $50,000 in last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Stacy Charette-Hill bred Born In The Blood out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Long Gone Kool.
Trainer Umberto Belloc saddled runner-up Masters Hand for owner Ignacio Gamino Guerrero. The daughter of FDD Dynasty has yet to break her maiden from eight starts and has $9,040 in earnings. Jim Streelman and Bill Dale bred the #5,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sales graduate in Missouri out of Holiday Magic by Valiant Hero.
Eagleflash Corona broke her maiden in July for owner Ravi Chavez. The daughter of First Moonflash has $8,628 in earnings and is trained by Heraclio Betello. Sandra Villalobos bred the $27,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale graduate in California. She is out of Coronas Eagle by One Famous Eagle.
Empty Temptation, Space Cowwboyy, Set The Edge, Grand Diamond D, Kvn Negro To Blanco, and Koli complete the order of finish.
